New c8 here. It’s low as 60 grand
What do you think used c7 market prices gonna look like in couple months ?
I won’t pay more than 35k for ANY USED stingray ( doesn’t matter what package or mods on it) or 45-48k for z06
opinions?

Any used car buyer is not a new C8 buyer. Had a friend who sold 'used' exotics. The used BMW guy was never going to be a new BMW guy. Ditto with Porsche. Which kept prices firm. A good used C7 will bring good used car money. Today, tomorrow, next week.

should drop a little but the major impact wont be felt for a year or more once 40k+ c8's are out there. I would assume economy and other things will be contributing factors but a massive increase in production numbers will ultimately have a larger role.

Don't think it matters much to me. If I were to try to sell my C7 privately, people would continue to low ball it Stealerships will continue to try to steal it for as little as possible if I tried to trade it in.

Agreed. C7 Grand Sports and Z06s are currently listed at 50-65k, but you'd have to be an absolute lunatic to buy one at that price now. In the coming months, we should see Stingrays dipping into the low 30s and GS / Z06s in the 40k range.

Good luck to you, I say. Plenty of people will be there looking for used C7s, I can guarantee the bottom isn't going to be bottoming out on those any time soon.

I am pleasantly surprised that they announced base C8's would be under $60k. Great news. Now it will be tough to decide on getting a used C7 Z06, or a brand new C8. Wildly different cars, but cost wise they will be really close.

Understandable that current C7 owners will be defensive about its value. Can't fault them for that; many of them just bought their cars and spent good, hard-earned money. But the new Corvette looks like a Ferrari, has a hyper-futuristic interior, lets you do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, and is available for $60,000. If you don't think that's going to affect the prices of older Corvettes, you're fooling yourself. And you only make yourself look foolish by arguing, because you'll never convince a buyer to pay more than market price simply because that's what you feel it's worth. And believe me, the market will shift. If you don't like it, keep your C7. Enjoy it, and don't worry about what others think.
Here's what I predict the market will look like soon.
$7,500 - $10,000: C5
$10,000 - $15,000: C5 Z06, C6
$15,000 - $20,000: C6
$20,000 - $27,500: C6 Grand Sport
$27,500 - $35,000: C6 Z06, C7 Stingray
$35,000 - $42,500: C6 ZR1, C7 Grand Sport
$42,500 - $50,000: C7 Z06
$50,000 - $62,500: C7 ZR1, C8 Stingray
$62,500 +: C8 Stingray, C8 Z06, etc.

You can already get a majority of them at those prices. The corvette is also highly influenced by the seasons so come winter time next year I would knock a few grand off most of those numbers. Only exception may be the ZR1 and z06's with more limited options etc.
Personally I could really only see paying the top amounts listed for something like a c6z carbon etc.

I don’t see any real impact, if anything certain models of all prior generations may gain in value. The C8 is a complete direction change for the Corvette. The C7 and those before it are now unique in their own way. You will have some that love the new C8 and some that don’t for numerous reasons. With all the hype you will have a lot of people looking at the new C8 but can’t afford it, so they will turn to the used market, then add the lack of a manual concern, some people just want to row gears.
Only people I see getting hammered are those looking to order C8’s now. Dealers will know they have them on the hook and will low ball trades.

And Low Ball trade ins might mean great deals on those trade ins.

For the life of me I can't see why ANYBODY would choose a C7 over a C8. Not to slight the C7 because, up until last night I was SERIOUSLY thinking of buying a new 2019 Grand Sport for $55K-ish. Not anymore. I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one thinking this. Lost potential customers mean lower prices - simple economics.
There's no reason to feel bad for the current C7 owners though, they'll continue to have really nice cars. .

Don't know, don't care. I don't buy my cars as investments and seldom get rid of anything anyway. But, all the best to those who do. Not where I'd look to make money, for sure.

I was just offered $52000 for my 2019 C7 convertible, stick shift, 2lt, by a dealer. To buy my car, not a trade in. I think a lot of people are over reacting to this whole c* ruining C7 market. It will have some influence on it, but it won't shatter it as some claim. and there are many folks who really do like the look of the FE car better. And to some there's a risk is buying a completely newly engineered car from GM. After what I've experienced at the dealer getting warranty work on my C7 I can assure you there will be issues with getting your new C8 repaired. And the rear end of this new super car does have a camaro-ish look to it!

One word for you... MANUAL
Maybe you're not a manual tranny type of person but that's why a lot of us already chose to buy a C7 over a C8 in recent months. Given GM's history of issues moving between platforms with FE cars I'm not holding my breath the car will be perfect from the factory moving to a ME configuration where 90% of the engine and tranny components are all new, never mind the new electronics platform and all the software development required there. Then you have to factor in the dealership experience to get them fixed. We'll be lucky if there is one tech per dealership trained on the C8 initially. I had to explain to a service advisor that my Z has the FE6 suspension which is slightly different from the FE4 last week and this car has been out for 5 years! I'm not gambling $80k that they get it right off the bat and I need to daily my car, can't have it in the shop all the time while they work it out. 3-4 years in I'll probably be a C8 buyer, especially if they give us a manual Z06 option, but when my Z has 150 more horsepower, a manual tranny, and room for my golf clubs (clubs in the bag, not just room for the bag as in the launch pics)? No contest C7 wins every time in my world. The reveal last night didn't change my mind one bit.
The C8 looks cool but some of you really need to calm down and wait to see what they actually deliver imho...
To the OP, I guess you'll be driving whatever you're driving for a few years. Typically 3ish years in a C7 Stingray or Z51 car will be worth 50% of its purchase price (Z06 and ZR1 will hold value better) and I don't see the C8 changing that. Prices aren't just going to catastrophically drop overnight. Not to mention the C7 Z06 is likely still going to outperform the C8 until GM releases the C8 Z. It'll be interesting to see how those two stack up on a track or in the 1/4 mile but I don't see how a car that weighs 300 pounds more with 150 less horsepower wins a dragrace beyond 60mph (0-60 is largely about traction). Playing devil's advocate though, just say performance is similar - would you pay $85k for a Z51 C8 vs $55-60k for a 5k mile C7 Z06? I'm guessing a LOT of people would prefer the Z at a $25k discount for a while. The C8 doesn't make the C7 worthless, that is just crazy talk.

This situation regarding starting price of base model will do the same thing as the C6 to C7. Even if a base c8 is at $60k, you wont be able to buy one at that price for 2 years. Same thing will happen when the c8 Z06 equivalent comes out.
And no C7 owner in their right mind will sell you any c7 in the range you are talking about.
Another factor is the C8 is not a home run. I have owned 5 vettes and it did nothing for me. I love my cargo space, I have an additional 150hp, the front end of the c8 just sits there and the rear end is too busy. Besides, mine is paid for.
I thought it was interesting that while looking at auto trader today, they had a newly listed ZR1 at $8k ABOVE MSRP. So much for the prices falling like a rocket. ZR1s have been selling for below MSRP for months now. Somebody is thinking there is going to be a resurgence in C7 demand.
And besides, with GM implementing its company wide new electrical system architecture on the C8 (the first vehicle) you would be a fool to buy a first year or second year C8. Plan on sitting in the dealer service area waiting areas alot.
Good luck with your dreams.
And btw.....if Z06 prices go where you predict, I will have a second beautiful corvette in my garage.
