Well, you cannot rest your foot on the clutch unless it's depressed... I guess that's what you must mean "in traffic." I tell most who ask me this question that, "If you feel you have to ask, you already know the answer. Get an automatic."

Yes these posts do bring out the "give me manual or give me death" crowd - go easy on me, I love my A8 and my comment was made with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek.

About 25% of the C7's are manuals for those of us who like to shift our own gears. It will be interesting to see if GM decides the C8 needs a "real manual" like Porsche who is supplying with the 2020 6 cylinder ME 718 Cayman GT4!
Funny, I have only driven standard shifts for my DD in 60 years. My 1st Vette, a 1988 standard trans was the exact same cost as an automatic. GM didn't make it, it was a Doug Nash (an old Detroit drag racer) supplied 4 speed with a two speed overdrive in the tailshaft! My '93 Vette had a 6 speed from ZF in Germany. My last 3 Vettes used a trans made by Tremic in Mexico.

All depends on your take! Traded a C5 manual for a C7 A8. Over the years the daily drive-12 mile commute to work got heavier and heavier, now on a good day 45 minutes upwards to 90 min+ stop and go, riding the clutch was NO fun. Now, weather permitting, top down-jams up!

A good tuner can send the auto transmission computer to HP tuners and get it unlocked and sent back to your tuner to work the magic on it. 400 bucks and mine shifts super fast and as hard as you want it. I love my A8

The buying public seems to enjoy the convenience of the automatic anymore. I have an A6 in mine and have been putting the car in M and using the paddle shifters more than I used to. While not quite the same as an M7 tranny, I still have a lot of fun driving the car and shifting with the paddles. I’m sure others will agree that the C7 is still a sports car without the M7 in it.
Really it comes down to what tranny you would prefer. Either way, the car is a hoot.

I recently went thru this decision and decided on the manual. I would have gone with the auto with paddle shifters if it was dual clutch. To me a sports car is either a manual or dual clutch with paddle shifter. I had paddle shifters/dual clutch on my TT and the shifting was way faster on down and up than the corvette current auto/paddles.

When I was working, my commute was in heavy traffic and I had a stick shift Subaru. I enjoy shifting and can’t imagine not having a stick in a toy.
Get the stick.
Get the stick.

Everybody has an opinion, right? I have a stick shift C7, and it's a blast to drive. Rev match is very cool. But mine is for pleasure drives, and not needed as a daily commuter car. If I had to drive the C7 as a daily commuter car I'd get an auto. But I would not buy a C7 for a daily commuter car so ...... In the end you'll have to decide which version is best for you. As evidenced, you'll get plenty of opinions about which one is preferable. But all the advice given here is worth would you paid for it. If the C7 had a dual clutch tranny I would have been tempted to go that route.
