New owner - engine issue under 200 miles
Hi all,
First time owner. Just purchased a 2019 Stingray last Saturday (5/25/19). By Sunday morning it was being towed to the a dealership.
As I was going down the interstate the car shuddered, then lost power. I lost power steering and was forced to pull to the side of the road. The car would not start after and I called roadside assistance, which took 2 hours to get someone out to me.
The service department was able to look at it yesterday (5/29/19) and I was told it was a bearing that went bad in the engine. They said they would have to remove the engine to examine the damage. They said they would then decide whether it could be fixed or a new engine must be put in.
The couple of hours I was able to drive it I really enjoyed it. I never got the chance to get it over 4k rpms as I was following break in procedures, but I can tell it is a fun car. I hope to be back in it soon.

GM ended up coming through with the repurchase. I just picked up the replacement Thursday and I have put 600 miles on it without any engine issues. I was told they will provide some additional things such as accessory money and a XM radio subscription, so I will add a final update when that comes to fruition.
Thanks to all for the advise and well wishes along the way.
If anyone in a similar situation is reading this and would like more information on the repurchase process, feel free to send me a pm.

Same thing happened to me on my brand new '72 Monte Carlo 454. Spun a bearing on the freeway with under 400 miles. Got a replacement block and it was at the dealership for about a week. Whoever has it now-if still around- won't have a numbers matching car...

I really dig your attitude regarding the entire situation. I am a new owner and so far so good. I do love the car. The engine sound never gets old.

While frustrating I'm sure, there is a happy ending in there soon with a little time. You're probably going to fall in love with the vette, the bonding process is already there, since you have a good attitude about it so far.

I admire your calmness, however, if it was me I would be telling them to keep the car and give me another similar one after only 1 week and 200mi. Granted, at this point, probably not much to pick from in stock to match what you already selected. But I really would not like a 1 week old car that has had an engine replacement from a dealer. Hope they get the new one installed carefully & without problems moving forward for you.

I feel your pain. I just bought a new Cruze Diesel and it made it 150 miles and 1 day before the CEL came on.
Dealer claims bad sensor they are changing today. Hopefully thats it.
My thought is that either **** breaks immediately on a new car or it lasts a LONG LONG time. When stuff breaks immediately I would chalk it up to manufacturing defect and move on...as long as the dealers response is appropriate...and it sounds like your dealer is taking care of it the best they can. Although on a car that new I would push for a replacement engine vs. them "fixing" it... just my thoughts.

Thanks for the replies.
At this point, I am just waiting to hear back on how they propose to fix it after they remove and examine the engine. From there, I will discuss possible options. If an engine replacement is needed, I would be somewhat worried about possible diminished value.

Under 200 miles with an engine problem? I would be climbing the walls. Good Luck with the repair.

SIDS Sudden Infant Death Syndrome... seems quite common no cars - all machines actually. It either works, or it blows up pretty quick. Frankly this is a big reason why I seldom or never buy new... prefer to buy premium low-mile.
OP: good luck! sorry to hear of your misfortune.

After having gone through a similar issue with my new '19, I feel for the OP.
Hopefully it will be a quick and satisfactory resolution

You have a great attitude. Approach this in a businesslike manner. Document everything - date, time, who you talked to. Request copies of all paperwork from the dealer. Hopefully you'll never need the documentation.

If they don't swap you to a new car, I'd make noise about the dealership paying for an extended warranty...look on this forum for Denis Fitchner. A sh!tload of us have bought the extended warranties from him. I believe it IS transferrable with the car too whenever you sell it in the future.

The engine goes bad a week after purchase? I wouldn't accept anything less than a replacement engine, no way would I want a dealership rebuild in a 1 week old car. Good luck dude.

I applaud your maturity and positive attitude. How refreshing to read, for a change. Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome.

Also the engines are not VIN matched anymore that I am aware of.
Only thing I would be cautious of, either way, is making sure the dealer knows there is a procedure to align the engine with the torque tube. I believe there have been documented cases of not following this procedure causing the new, new motor to seize in short order do to stresses on the crank tail shaft.
