Tire pressure / heat

Tire pressure / heat
I keep my tire pressure at exactly 35 psi, as recommended. Sometimes, in the hot Florida weather, I see it climb to 40 psi. Once, one tire hit 41. I understand a 10% increase is normal, but 40 seems too high, if not dangerous. Anyone else experience this?

I've forgotten what the max pressure the tire is designed for but I seem to remember 51 psi. And remember that's cold temperature so the max operating pressure is probably around 55 psi. The max cold pressure is indicated on the sidewall of the tires.

I have a 2016 Stingray and the tire pressure recommendation on the door is 35 PSI. That's what I abide to. And I does go up to 40 psi in the 110 heat. Never a problem.

Its not a problem. As long as its within the right spec when cold.

The pressure rising is related to inside tire temperature. So even when standing still it can rise by sunlight on tire.
But never bleed air on a hot day to get the adviced pressure, the tires need the lesser deflection then, to produce lesser heat, because cooling down is also worse then..
Once read that tires are tested, to can stand a pressure of 2 to 3 times the reference-pressure ( 35 psi for a standard load P-tire, not a coincidence your advice-pressure).
This means 70 to 105 psi warm pressure, this means for yours.
A pressure/temperature list I made
its the first I found on my mobile, could not see wich range. See looking back that its the wrong range.

For the C7 base car with 18/19 inch wheels the recommended cold pressure is 35 psi. All other models with 19/20 inch wheels the recommended cold pressure is 30 psi.

Perfectly normal. GM has changed the tire pressures over the years. Some corvettes say 30 psi and others say 35 psi cold. I always run mine at 38 cold and they hit about 42 to 43 hot. I run the higher tire pressure because you get better wear, better gas mileage, and also better if you do any high speed runs.

I will guarantee that if you run 38 cold or even 35 cold you will wear out the centers of the tires prematurely. Any you're a dealer??

I will guarantee you that you won't wear the centers out prematurely. I've been doing this since 2007 to all my corvettes and to all of my vehicles for that matter. Never had one set of tires wear prematurely. Actually get longer tire life out of them.

I run mine at 30 lb cold, as the sticker says I should. And my car handles great, and the tire wear seems really even too. 38 cold seems too high to me, and would create a very harsh ride in my car. When in doubt go with what's recommended on the door

I wouldn't worry about the increase overmuch. I've had over a 10psi increase on one day. I started out 60° 30psi in the predawn, in a rainstorm in Kansas City, and by the time on got to Denver in the late afternoon, it was up to 97° and 42 psi. I just bled some air out since I was going to be staying at the higher altitude for a week or two.
I refuse to overthink it.

[QUOTE=owc6;1599461973]No, not quite. There was a year or two where the psi cold was bumped up to 35psi to increase fuel economy on paper. Nothing physical changed, and was not wheel size dependant.
/QUOTE]
You are wrong it was dependent on the wheel size.
