Many more and I might be done too!

I hear you and sympathize with you. Hope the surgery resolves the problem. Buying an A8, Z06 was one of the worst mistakes I've ever made.

I've heard the comment several times. People see the race car exterior, then see the manual and say "cool". Especially older people.

Maybe your wife only allows you to one car with a stick, my wife allows me to buy and own what I want. Most are manuals, the black one is a A8.

I'll be a manual corvette M7 stick shift driver until they are obsolete. I don't trust the A8 transmission, as it is a sealed unit with LOTS of people having issues with it. I can replace parts for my M7 with no issues at all. However, I think the A8 is a good option for older guys with issues with bad knees and hips.

The A8 is also a good option for those who are sick and tired of constant clutch pedal use in heavy bumper-to-bumper stop-and-go traffic. That is why I got an automatic. I still have another vehicle with a manual transmission but after 40+ years driving a stick I’m pretty much over them. Yeah, manuals are at times a lot more fun to drive but I factored in all considerations when I went with a slush box this time. Don’t regret it one bit.

I did not know about the potential problems with GM’s A8 when I got mine. If mine gives me any trouble I’ll sell it and get a C8 which hopefully will have a reliable auto transmission.

Cheers!

funny how all I have done is replace clutch after clutch on my resto mod. Some stupid 6 speed Tremec. works great now though after a clutch or 2 and then solenoid went with less than 3 k easy miles. I'll take a auto trans anytime. Working on 400K miles on the other 5 cars, and funny if I haven't' had 1 issue period with any of the transmissions other than flushing once in a while.

It just seems like the logical step is to figure out why a less complex system in a manual transmission is causing you so many problems in that particular car.

I've only owned my new 2017 Corvette for 1.5 years and I get it all the time, "cool that it's a manual" by guys in their 20s.

I guess I am an anomaly then because when I bought '19 2LZ M7 Z06 last Fall:

1. I have a "football knee" that may need replacement but do not view it as an obstacle to my enjoyment of the car either now or after possible surgery
2. I buy what I want to drive for myself, and have never asked for "permission" or "input" from my wife about that. She gets what she wants to drive, and since she is not a "car person" asks for my suggestions but the makes final choice.
3. I don't give the south end of a north bound rat's butt what anyone else drives - their money, their business
4. I don't care that I may be a tenth or two slower 0-60 or in the quarter mile because it is meaningless to me because I don't race on the street and not interested in drag racing
5. I don't care if my M7 is a few tenths or seconds slower around a road race track the few times I go, and I am not (like 98%) of people on here, a good enough driver to make that difference relevant
6. Two of the five people I know who have auto Z06s have some problems with them (just informational)
7. Maybe some (not me) are put off by the $3,000 extra they have to pay to buy an auto (trans cost plus gas guzzler penalty)

Bottom line, this is a toy, and I enjoy having it as a manual. I don't care what anyone else chooses - it's their money, and I don't care if they like what I chose - it's my money...

Corvette Forum is not representative of all Corvette owners. Those who are active here are more likely to be enthusiasts and more likely to buy manuals. This fact means (a) that percentage-wise there are likely to be more manuals offered for sale here by CF participants and (b) any savvy seller looking to sell a manual will advertise here. (It's free; there are more potential customers for manuals.)

GM introduced the autos more and more to help with sliding sales and appeal to more female buyers who couldn't drive a stick. I say that in jest but GM execs have stated this going back to the 70s-80s. Out of 22 Vettes I only had an auto when a manual wasn't available or the only manual was the 4+3 piece of crap. Yes they're faster in a strait line at the track but the roads and tracks I travel have curves.

When are you going to quit the "$11,000" more bullshit? It's simply not true. If you want to make yourself feel better because you bought the wrong car, fine....but the numbers don't lie.....as opposed to certain people.

The GS is a bargain compared to comparably equipped Z51 with MSRC. Get over it.

Who cares about the transmission! I say you're all a bunch of girly men pushing your fancy electronic start buttons. Back in my day, when there were real men, we hand cranked our engines & sometimes broke our arm in the process. At least this is what this thread reminds me of.

BTW, drive what you like. I've owned a '93 M6, '97 A4, & now an '18 M7. Though I will say when I had the A4 some would say I can't believe you bought an automatic etc... etc... While I have only received positive comments about the manuals.

I wonder how many my age even could start a carborated car (after sitting over night/manual fuel pump and no D. U. I distributor) let alone a manual. I know my wife didn't know and I am certain none of my friends do.
