Change differential fluid

You guys are missing the point here...…. it has NOTHING to do with what the damned manual says...… in 2017, there was an issue on this forum regarding EARLY metallic deposits being found in the differential fluid. As a result, MANY of us took our cars in at various mileage stages..... and MANY (NOT ALL) did find "unusually high" levels of metallic shavings..... I know mine certainly was. The mechanic in my case acknowledged that this was NOT NORMAL. Now, I don't know if this was, or would have resulted in a major problem, but it was an ISSUE and I was glad to have gotten the information here and acted upon it.... thus preventing what COULD HAVE BEEN a problem. I would rather spend a few bucks to avoid a problem if at all possible. I WILL have them change the differential fluid in my new 2019 GS when I take it in next week for the 500 mile oil change...….. yet another potential problem avoided!

its the 10-4034 (88862624) GM fluid, You’ll need 3 quarts (it will take almost all of it).

OK, I didn't join the discussion until the 2017 model year.... probably mid 2016...… so I would not have been aware of previous issues and don't recall any conversations with any forum members at the time about previous years issues...…. although I am not surprised that the issue existed prior to 2017 MY. My only point was with people citing the "owners manual" on an issue that clearly had nothing to do with things the owners manual anticipates.

I changed mine the same time I did the trans (M7) change....approx 1000 miles.
Both did have a silver sheen( normal gear wear/break in) and both were about 1/3-1/2 qt low.I was also surprised that the fill/drain bolts were only finger tight.
Trans was EZ,Diff....not so much.

I changed the dif oil twice because it looked like silver mud. The second time i changed it, It looked a lot better.
The trans oil looked fine when i drained it. But it helped with the cold (hard shifting) putting in fresh oil. (M7)
