Driver's Edition Grand Sports are a pretty good deal!
I've seen some posts talking about the new driver's package being $5,000 for some stripes and a plaque, but it's really much more than that. Each car is different, but there's a lot of equipment that comes with each car and it sometimes even surpasses the cost of the option. Here's an example:
Antonio Garcia Edition 3LT Grand Sport - Included with this package is the yellow paint ($995), striped wheels ($1,495), Jake wheel centercaps ($210), red calipers ($595), Jack stinger ($500), hash marks ($795), carbon flash mirrors ($100), carbon flash badges ($100), visible carbon fiber dash ($995), yellow stitching ($395) and a dash plaque ($200) that comes to a grand total of $6,380 of product for $5,995.
Of course they aren't all like that, but that isn't taking into account that there are many collectors who love these special editions.
You may or may not like the packages and that's your choice, but I wanted to make sure people were not confused by the pricing and what comes in the package when you select it.

Thanks Dave, I don't understand all the haters in the first place. I mean, if you don't like the car don't buy one. There's no requirement that makes anyone buy a CE.

Why can't GM make a real "drivers package" instead of stickers and emblems?

I'm glad you pointed this out, as I did not think of this initially when announced. I was not a fan of these initially, but one thing I do think is also worth pointing out... I'm glad they honored these drivers that have been with Corvette Racing and work hard to bring home victories for us fans.

But it is not a "deal" when someone can a la carte all the items together for the same price - that is where my take came from.
Similar to my Premier Edition the only thing truly unique here is the dash plaque.

I think the backlash has to do with the fact that there is nothing new or special about these cars. With the exception of the dash plaque, these are all off the shelf parts that have been available for years, and could be replicated for less money on any existing C7 using aftermarket parts.
The C7R edition, CE Grand Sport and Carbon 65 at least had new and unique parts that were only found on those specific vehicles. Nobody besides die hard Vette addicts will be able to tell the difference between one of these and a striped 2017-2019 GS. Three of them were parked in public for days before the 'reveal' and nobody even noticed them.

Highly disagree. Nothing special about these at all. Just slap on options already available. Wow.
how about a unique wheel design or hood vent or something.

At the factory: Instead of the gray paint gun we'll use the red one, then charge $595.
Instead of the yellow paint gun...carbon flash...$100.
Instead of the black thread...yellow...$395.
What a racket, but we're biting.

Race Driver's editions imply a racing context, which in my mind implies performance. Why no performance goodies in these 'special' editions? GM could have at least offered a nod to some increase in performance here but missed the boat. To each their own, but I can think of better ways to spend $5k.

My complaint is it’s not a real special edition or special car. It’s the same car with trim combinations. Now if they had given the car a bump in power, weight reduction, and some interior upgrades like more carbon fiber or something, that would be cool. Maybe like the Ferrari does or McLaren with the LT series. But what they did is just a gimmick to me.
