If you drive it like a bitch it will treat you like one. There is no break in either. Varying cylinder pressure is your friend.

I grew up on a busy street less than a mile from a couple of Buick factories. Back in those days they would drive the cars off the line and across town to holding lots near the rail/trucking yards. Day shift wasn't so bad (traffic in the way), but night shift would pound the f&%k out of them... Countless wrecks! They figure if it's going to break, they wanted it to break before it got to the customer.

Easy break-in? Pish.

I want to drive my car hard, but at the same time i don't want to spend $1700 on tires every 5000 miles. First world problems are the worst.

Pretty much everyone is limiting the torque/power in 1/2/3 gears to avoid possible damage to the drive train. To give an example, even my 425hp M4 was torque limited by the ECU and it was extremely annoying.

I drive mine hard every time I get in it. Otherwise I'd just take my more comfortable car to begin with. I say tear it up and let GM eat the repair.

The Tremic trans with the Z51/GS 2.97:1 1st gear ratio is rated at 460 ft-lbs and can handle the max LT1 torque, which is the same.

The Z06 2.29: 1st gear ration is rated 635 ft-lbs torque by Tremic and the Z06 has 650 hp max.

However both cannot put that full power to the ground so the max torque is not reached (with OEM tires) as the traction control will do it's thing! There are also safety factors applied to the trans specs so it doesn't mean one application with break the trans.

To my knowledge, only the ZR1, with the same M7 gear box as the Z06, is "torque limited by electronics" in 1st so it's 715 ft-lbs doesn't over stress the trans. With only a 1.61:1 2nd gear ratio in the Z06/ZR1 Trans, doubt there is a limiting torque part.

There were forum reports by drag racers of spider gear failure (probably an issue with slicks and power adders) and as mentioned GM said the upgraded the spider gears for the ZR1 and stated they would be used in all C7's. Why mess with two different sets of spider gears!
