Grand Sport 2LT vs Stingray 3LT Z51
#21
Right! So if you race them and can actually drive to ultimate potential with perfect conditions you will need a camera to see who won at 1 tenth of a second difference. Or they will be bumper to bumper. While that’s excitng I’d still go with the one you think looks better. Unless your into racing.

Like some here, I prefer the sleeker look of the Stingray, and w/Z51 package it's a complete car. It pretty much comes down to personal preference. My dealer had both on the lot and I was drawn to the Stingray body as opposed to the widebody of the GS. You can't go wrong either way...my 2¢

Using as track car, get a GS. Using on the street, just get a non-Z51 Stingray.
I don't know what $83K Canadian equals in US dollars, but you should be able to get a very satisfactory Stingray for about $55K US. (I got a 1LT auto, no other options, for $48,513.)

True.
Except if you intend to do some spirited driving on those streets, beautifully curved freeway on and off ramps, empty highways, mountain highways, and certain other highways and byways known only to you, you'll appreciate what the Z51 package brings to the table, so to speak.
I know this to be very true.

I will likely never track the car but I do like the idea of wider tires on it and the GS body/look
The Stingray has 285s on the back, even with the Z51 package, correct?
Seems a little anemic for a sports car with 460 HP; I have 315s on 12" wheels on the back of my Charger.

The inevitable wheel "problems" on the GS steered me to a Z51 Stingray. I, also, own a '10 GS. 60K miles and I just bought my fourth set of tires. The GS eats tires. And, don't even get me started on the brake job I just got done. The C6 GS had real front fenders, not the plastic extensions. For street use the Z51 with mag ride, M7 is a better, more practical car. I, also, own a '12 ZR1. So, I speak from experience.

if the 3lt has mag ride get the z51 - This is what I did and no regrets. First adding new tires is about 300 more, then there is the rim issue. I also think the corvette is wide already so adding 2 inches was not for me.
I drove both back to back over the same roads I have rode my slingshot and Audi TT and I could not tell the differance between the GS and z51. I was amazed that both corvettes where flatter on the turns than the slingshot.

I think it comes down to where does the OP want more "bling"?
The GS will give him/her more bling on the outside (wider body, wider tires, some additional ZO6 looking accents)
The Z51 (since its a 3LT) will give him/her a bit more bling on the inside (NAPA leather, extra gadgets, etc).
Both have the same performance upgrades - so it comes down to what's more important to you - exterior pizzazz or interior pizzazz...??
Either way - you'll end up with one hell of a sports car...Good Luck!

All things equal, I would likely get the GS because of the wide rear which is a look that I like.
Having said that, I think the Z51 stingray has cleaner lines and looks a bit more elegant. I have aero on mine which is a great balance between the two and I'm happy with it.
Could come down to color combination too...unless you're ordering new (not picking off the lot).

My $0.02 - As posted, for street driving the main difference is the rear width and larger tires...
After seeing what a Spring Mountain instructor could do with the base Stingray M7 I was assigned to, it is unlikely that most drivers can reach the Stingray's potential on public streets, so for non track use the choice of the GS will realistically be for appearance purposes (along with the higher cost of new rubber if/when that becomes an issue)...
