Stripe confusion
Looking for a quality Stinger Stripe and GS fender stripes. I was told that the GM stripes are clear coated hence the price, but if I buy the stripes through Chevy will my local dealer install them for free? also I have seen two types of GS fender stripes. One is 2 separate stripes and the other the 2 stripes are connected at the top What is the official Type?

The GS stripes from GM are decals. My dealer had an outside firm install them (the same one that did my Excel install). Decals don't have clear coat which is a glossy paint finish. The GM stripes are matt finish. Some members here have had their stripes painted on by a local body shop and are happier because a clear coat can be sprayed on top of the painted stripes and the stipes are then blended into the finish unlike my decal stripes which have a definite edge to them where they meet the paint. And as you can see from my pic the fender hash has a connecting bar at the top. I hope this helps.

I own a 2010 GS. I put the GM stripes on myself. For that year, the stripes are totally separate, no top connecting bar. My stripes were a part of the Heritage Package on the car. The legitimate GM decals have a very tiny Corvette flag logo on the first front stripe upper left corner of the decal that differentiates it from the aftermarket stripes. Also for that year, the stripes have a thin dark border on them.
These stripes purchased separately from GM were very expensive, somewhere around $350 at the time. I didn't put mine on right away because I wasn't sure I'd like them. In the end, the install myself with a soapy water solution was very simple to do.

Let's see a show of hands, everyone who has gotten free labor at a Shivvy dealer (or, any other for that matter)?

If you give them money they will install them free. I couldn't resist, but yes there will be a charge. But seriously, get quotes from various auto shops. The prices can really spread for something like these stripes.
