Hatch underside paint wiped off? The heck?
Saw a sticky spot after stowing my targa. Wiped with a microfiber and windex and the paint came right off. 2014 with 46K miles. No other sticky spots. Sticky spot was the paint coming loose from the metal substrate.

You sure you aren't using break clean and scouring pads again?
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Same thing on the vert trunk lid, don't know what they call this kind of paint (water color) I believe. Now all I use is damp micro cloth.

I have the same problem... not as extreme as your case but I did notice from cleaning that it was starting to rub off the paint in that area (mine is a little speckled). So, I have stopped cleaning it. I clean it very gently. I am not sure I want the dealer replacing the hatch if I really don't have to, although in your case I would probably go for it. Sorry buddy! Let us know how it ends up.

Looking closer at hatch, the prior owner did a bunch of touch-ups. Need to get some chassis black and brush it on.
Love the car's tech and how it drives, but the fit and finish and cosmetic issues suck compared to my 4 C5s. Maybbe that's what I get for buying a 2014.

Ya see, if we'd all bought Porsches, this wouldn't be happening.
You sure your car bought used wasn't wrecked before you bought it?

yep... undercarriage, suspension, and powertrain are perfect. Car harlfy saw rain. Just got all the quirks of a 2014. Used to be an insurance adjuster and can say 100% it's all factory original.

Mine I got delivered new. I think whatever paint they used on the hatch doesn't take well to solvents. I was using VLR which seems to wear it off.

Mine seems ok.
Possibly a trunk deck liner was installed and then removed at some point leaving the adhesive residue/sticky spot.

No... no liner goes up there. The stickiness was from the paint failing to adhere. Who knows how long that spot has been there. Just finally saw it with the hatch up, sun setting, and was checking the weather strip for another reason.

Myself and others have this problem with our vans. I used to scrape, prime and rattle can paint. No good. Now I remove all the paint and vinyl wrap.

Had the same issue when I cleaned mine. It is water color, shoe polish, or some other crap that GM used. I would expect this from a part made in China, but I believe these body panels are made in the US.
I managed to get it to look ok by using some permanent black marker - which is probably similar to what GM used in the first place. Really cheesy. Makes me wonder what other places it is used - under the hood too?

The windex didn't cause the issue. The paint had already come loose hence being tacky. That said I will only use water from now on.

Bad prep on the metal substrate or oils from production. Glad I'm not alone. I will brush on some flat black and move on!
