C7 Oil Consumption
My 2017 Z51 (M7, 2LT) has about 9500 miles on the clock (it is exactly 15 months since I drove the car home). It has been mostly sitting since Dec. 1, first shoulder surgery, then a snowy and cold winter here in the lower Hudson Valley of New York (I live in Chester, NY, about 45 miles NW of NY City). Last night I checked the oil. Following the clear instructions in the owner's manual, I added a liter of Mobil One to bring the level up to where it should be. So my car burned a liter of oil over 2500 miles/5 months.
That's consistent over the first 9K miles, maybe a liter of oil per 3K miles on my car. That seems to be fairly typical for this car, but I'd like to hear about the experience of other owners here.

2014 Z51 M7 with no to minimal oil consumption, depending on how I drive. My oil change intervals typically are in the 6-7k mile range (I follow the oil life indicator) and the most I've ever added between changes was a half quart after putting very aggressive miles on. I typically run my dry-sump oil level about halfway between the min & max marks on the dipstick.
I use Eco/AFM frequently on roadtrips and highway drives while the cruise control is set.
I am tuned with bolt-ons.
My first free oil change at the dealership was done at 6,500 miles with ACDelco semi-synthetic (this was before the 500-mile oil change and Mobil 1 info was released, and before DEXOS was revised to gen 2 full-synthetic); it's been only Mobil 1 since then.

Oil could be going into the intake, especially if it has ever been over filled. Did you drive the car and get everything up to operating temp before you checked the level?

Are you sure you got the car oil hot and did you wait the 7 minutes before you took your measurement? Both must be done or you can screw up the oil level reading. The book says wait 5-10 minutes so I just tag the average and read at 7 minutes.
I've had no noticeable loss of oil between changes.

My 16 A8 Stingray burns a quart every 3k miles with a total of 33k miles on the clock. Wife uses AFM. My GS M7 does not burn any oil at 13k miles and 7 track days. I have never used AFM once in the GS. Now that’s not enough info to say bad things about AFM, But, my 2014 Silverado burns a quart every 1k miles. It’s pretty bad and yes, uses AFM. I hate AFM.

As for the comments about over filling that isn't a big issue since GM recommends a half quart over fill when taking the car out on a road course. That is 10.3 quarts of oil total.
My LT4's oil consumption is negligible even when running 3 track days in a row in low 90 degree temps.

Agree, having nearly daily commuted in my C7, it takes at least 10 miles to get to the oil temp to 175º. Coolant temp is at normal operating temp in 2-3 miles.

Is there any credible and published data that demonstrates the use of AFM (V4) increases oil consumption? Thanks.

My '16 Z51 (25k) doesn't use any oil during normal driving. It will use a few ounces autocrossing (12 runs).

I have almost 60,000 on my Stingray. Change interval at about 7,500. I have never had to add oil. In fact at 7,500 it is still at the maximum level on the dipstick.

No, purely opinion based on observation of way to small a sample group. I am biased and it’s not a provable fact at this point. But I won’t ever have it on in a vehicle again.

Note: I did not see it rear it’s head until after 10k for both my C7 and Silverado. I don’t think one long trip will do it, assuming it’s a real effect. And if it’s not, I got two shitty engines and one solid one.

38k miles on my car. I've done 7 or so cross-country roadtrips using AFM and also use it quite frequently on the weekends, and the occasional time I drive the car to work, if I'm just cruising down the highway/tollway with the cruise control set. If you think you got a bad engine, or have excessive oil consumption, let the dealership take care of it under the long powertrain warranty (5/100 or 5/60 depending on model year).

I followed the manual instructions by the book. Oil temp was about 220ºF when I the motor off, I waited 5+ minutes and checked the dipstick 3x, it was barely over into the crosshatched area, but very near the bottom, I added about .8 liters (most of the bottle). Re-checked the level later and it was in the crosshatched dipstick area near the top.
That's what the manual tells you to do. I have never over-filled the oil.
