Default C7 overheating--How to get the fan to run

My C7 was stuck in stop and go traffic for 2 hours. Temp gauge went up to 240. I pulled over but the fan shut off shortly after the engine was shut off. Is there a way to make the fan keep running when the engine is off to cool it down?

220 is about the normal running temp. I don't think 240 would be that big of an overheating issue. The fan probably took it to 220 and shut off there. My car runs at 220 and when I turn it off, I hear no fan running.

There is no fan override that I am aware of to make them run longer than they are programmed from the factory.

This. Even if the fan kept running after you shut the car off it’s not cooling the engine, just the radiator.

240F isn't a big deal. If you're still worried about it though, next time you stop pop the hood and let it idle for a bit. That will let hot air escape while keeping the water pump flowing.

What year car? I had the same issue ONE 1 uno time. I had the temp spike up to the red on the gauge, I pulled over and shut down the car. I restarted it a minute or two later and everything started to work. Have not had the issue again and never had the issue before and I've had the car since May 2014.

I know I have a thread in here about that...

FYI:

Engine Cooling System Messages

A/C OFF DUE TO HIGH ENGINE TEMP

This message displays when the engine coolant becomes hotter than the normal operating temperature. To avoid added strain on a hot engine, the air conditioning compressor automatically turns off. When the coolant temperature returns to normal, the air conditioning compressor turns back on. The vehicle can continue to be driven.

If this message continues to appear, have the system repaired by your dealer as soon as possible to avoid damage to the engine.

ENGINE OVERHEATED — IDLE ENGINE

This message displays when the engine coolant temperature is too hot. Stop and allow the vehicle to idle until it cools down.

ENGINE OVERHEATED — STOP ENGINE

This message displays and a continuous chime sounds if the engine cooling system reaches unsafe temperatures for operation. Stop and turn off the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so to avoid severe damage. This message clears when the engine has cooled to a safe operating temperature.

Whelp, Florida can be a tad warm at times too! My problem hit when it was cool as did this event for the OP (SE Pa. in February). Warm or hot temperatures aren't the issue, the fan not running to cool the coolant, when in stop and go traffic is the issue.
