Default C7 GM Certified Warranty issue

I am seriously looking for a C7, and I am focusing on 2014's because I am a little concerned about A8 transmission issues, and also because of price. I also think it's a good idea to get a GM Certified car. In my search I have found several 2016s and even 2017s that are being sold as "GM Certified," and that seems a little strange to me.

Today I found a very low mileage 2016 that was delivered new less than 16 months ago. With the standard GM warranty, it should have 20 months and nearly 34,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper warranty coverage remaining, in addition to the balance of the 5-year, 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty. With the GM Certified warranty, the bumper-to-bumper warranty is reduced to just 12 months and 12,000 miles. Of course, the drivetrain warranty is increased to 6 years and 100,000 miles, but how many Corvette buyers put more than 60,000 miles on their car in 5 or 6 years?

Where is the value here? I am considering offering to buy the car at a lower price, and telling the dealer to skip the GM Certified warranty. What do you think about this idea?

You can also buy a 2014 and purchase your own GM warranty from a Forum Dealer on this board. Doesn't have to be "GM certified" I purchased a 2104 with low miles and added my own 3 year 36 month GM warranty for $1500.

Pretty sure the CPO warranty adds 12 months and 12k miles to the OEM warranty.

Does that $1500 GM warranty give more than 3 years on the drivetrain?

CPO does NOT reduce the original warranty.
New 6-Year/100,000-Mile Powertrain Limited Warranty
Among its many features, our improved CPO benefits package now includes a longer transferable 6-Year/100,000-Mile1 Powertrain Limited Warranty combined with our impressive 12-Month/12,000-Mile2 Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty. Both warranties carry a $0 deductible and come with every CPO Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC vehicle.

1Whichever comes first, from original in-service date. See participating dealer for limited warranty details.
2Whichever comes first, in addition to any remaining original factory Bumper-to-Bumper warranty. See participating dealer for limited warranty details.
Footnote 2 above clearly states that the 12 month/12,000 mile B-T-B is IN ADDITION to any remaining factory B-T-B.

THIS
I know first hand. I own a 2014 CPO car that I purchased in 2016. The original B2B warranty ran out April 2017. However it's now under the CPO B2B warranty that became effective the minute the original warranty ran out. It went in for a minor warranty issue earlier this month. The dealer checked the VIN in the GM warranty computer file and verified the repair is covered.
OP, you might have some difficulty finding a CPO 2014 based on the in service date and the fact that the great majority of 2014s were off the lots quickly, most have aged out.

Does the CPO warranty really give you 12 months/12,000 miles of additional BTB coverage from the day the original warranty expired, or from the day that you bought the car?

Also, I am not finding any shortage of 2014 CPOs. None of them have "aged out." A GM CPO must be within the 6 most recent model years and have fewer than 75,000 miles to be eligible.

Yes, the 12 months of additional CPO BTB warranty is on top of whatever is remaining of the original factory B2B warranty. I purchased a 2014 CPO 18 months ago that was originally sold new on 2/14/15. The original BTB warranty thus runs to 2/14/18. My GMVIS paperwork shows the BTB CPO warranty as expiring on 2/14/19 or 48K miles (whichever comes first) reflecting the 12 month/12K miles extension of B2B.

The same is true of the powertrain warranty which is increased to 6/100 from original in-service date. For the right price, and right car, the CPO program is one hell of a good deal.
