Default Magnetic Ride Suspension without Z51 package--Pros and Cons?

In my quest for a new C7, I have found a 2017 Corvette that has the Magnetic Ride suspension, but no Z51 package. Are there any advantages or disadvantages of having the magnetic ride but no Z51 package?

My current C6 has the magnetic ride suspension, and really like the ability to switch from tour to sport.

That's the setup I selected. The forum consensus felt that if you were not going to track your car, it was an unnecessary option. Additionally, I did not want the harsher ride or the brake dust from the Z51 larger brakes. I do like the mag-ride which also included the Z51 wheels and spoiler.

I have a 2017 Stingray coupe with mag ride. Mag ride has 3 settings Tour, Sport and Track. I find that tour mode is too soft for me in the city and going up or down driveways, so I use Track mode. I use tour mode on the highways. I had a 2007 Z51 non mag ride and the ride was stiff, but I liked it. You do not get a rear sway bar with the Base C7 Corvette with or without mag ride.

Good information here. I really like the z51 wheels and spoiler that comes with the mag ride package

Can the mag ride shocks be added to a base Stingray, by switching out the shocks? If so, is there anything else that has to be added or switched out?

It's not a simple matter of switching out the shocks. You need a control module, software, and the wiring harness that ties into control **** and center dash settings. It would be cheaper to take a loss on a trade and purchase a car w/ MSRC.

I wouldn't own a C7 without it.

The z51 only has larger disks. The pads are the same size, therefore the dust should be identical.

Not true. The Z51 uses a different pad material than the base car, which is why the base owners don't complain about dust but the Z51 owners do.

True, but the Brembo OEM pads that come w/ Z51s can be changed for $200-400 based upon your choice of Powerstops (cheaper and Chinese made) or Carbotech (more expensive, but US made, and more established reputation).

Either essentially eliminates the dust issue if that bothers you.

Non-Z51 (FE2) car does not have Performance Traction Management (PTM requires eLSD).

If you like the MSRC in your C6 you'll love it in the C7. Its much more advanced.

Also as mentioned above, with Z51 you get eLSD and PTM. PTM (Performance Traction Management) is an amazing thing that has benefits both on and off the track.

^ True that. PTM provides definite street benefits in terms of enhanced safety coupled with great performance.

For the 2018's it is slightly different. All 2018's come with the 19-20" wheels, but the MSRC package is now quite a bit less. For the 17's you were forced to get bigger wheels and the spoiler with the package. Now it is a stand-alone so the spoiler is dropped and the wheels come automatically. Bottom line is I paid about $2K more for the 2017 than the equivalent 2018 car. But that's business!
