When I get some time, i'm going to put some sound deadening material on the rear wheel humps.

Wind noise I dont get in my GS but road noise hella crazy but then again it is the nature of the beast. I knew that coming in so my expectations were spot on ROFL... Dynamat for the win in the rear and behind the seats.

Heres another alternative.
Quiet down your interior in 60 seconds....

Blockit "Quick and Quiet" Sound Deadening System.

* Reduce interior noise in seconds! Just drop it in & go!
* Immediately removes tire/road noise & some aftermarket exhausts
* Pre - cut & shaped! No adhesive! Lays right over your factory carpet.
* Fits Stingray, GS & Z06.
* Has cut outs for the cargo hoops.
* No ripping up your carpet/interior.
* 4 layers of REAL acoustical soundproofing materials
* Each layer is bonded via a unique infusion method which requires NO glue! No smell!
* 1" inch thick!
* 3 Piece pre-cut Kit.
* Great for long trips.
* Textured UV protected top layer is durable & looks great.
* Made Ii the USA! Raw materials Are from the USA Too!
* Manufactured under strict ISO 9001-2008 standards!
* So effective we filed for a patent!

Thanks for the suggestion but I already have a thick Lloyds mat, just need the wheel wells and I can insulate those for about $25.

My pleasure. Just keep in mind a good amount of the noise your experiencing resonates through the cargo area and behind the seats. The Lloyds mat does not help much reducing irritating noise in those areas.

Good luck & congrats on the new ride.

The convertible is actually quite a bit quieter than the coupe, so I think you'd have good luck with one of those mat systems (don't know which is best) that would block rear noise, basically duplicating what the convertible is like.

I don't know about Dynamat... it prevents resonance, but doesn't do much for sound insulation. It's more for deadening panels and that's not your problem, transmitted sound like tire roar likely is. And for that you need sound insulation, not deadening.

Don't let people tell you to "live with it" or "turn up the stereo" or "that's just Corvettes". Fix it and enjoy!

Thanks, I'm aware, this is my second C7 (previous '15 Z51), but the noise is louder in the '17 GS. It's an easy fix, just haven't made the time to do it yet.

That has to be a source of noise bouncing off the wheel well and the plastic wheel well cover!

C5 and C6 had the same issues. You are practically riding on the rear tires with just a thin piece of material between your ears and the tires. The noise just doesn't come in through the wheel well humps, it comes in from the vertical panel behind the seats which is just thin sheet metal and directly exposed to drive line and tire noise. Even tread less slicks will make a loud tire noise at highway speeds. Noise changes with the surface of the road. Some asphalt surfaces make almost no noise where others make a lot of noise. Same goes for concrete. Smooth worn concrete makes little noise but new brushed concrete will cause the car to sing.

I put noise insulation in my C6Z to reduce the problem. I covered everything from the front foot wells to the rear wall of the trunk with noise absorbing and heat reflecting insulation. Final result was barely noticeable.

Well said. We don't have a Prius but I'll ride as a passenger in my wife's Lexus if I want a quiet ride. I hardly expected s quiet car when I bought my first Corvette. I bought a Lloyd's luxe cargo mat and that is the extent of my noise reduction efforts.

There's engine and exhaust noise, and then there's runflats on pavement noise, the former is music, the latter is just noise.

.
It could be the rear hatch isn't seated properly.
Open it and lightly push down and let the electric motor seal it shut.
Don't slam it.

Chip seal asphalt is noisy with any car. In Texas, every county is different as you go past county lines. Concrete is grooved for traction in the wet. It makes a whining sound when driving on urban freeways.

Yes, the coups are MUCH louder inside than the convertibles.....at least this was the case for the 2015's. I ordered the insulation kit from Crazy Cowboy (Forum vendor) and had a local body shop install it. WELL worth the money for us. The interior noise went from not being able to hear the radio unless it was turned way up, or having a conversation without really straining to hear one another, to being able to hear the radio at a normal volume AND being able to have a conversation in a normal voice simultaneously.

In our minds it brought the noise levels down to that of the convertibles or maybe slightly better.

FYI---I seem to recall it took the very experienced worker at the body shop a good six plus hours to install the kit.

I was expecting a quieter car. Is this the way they all are, I'm guessing the wide tires are to blame for the road noise.
I kept it in touring with steering in sport and exhaust in track. The exhaust was not really loud, so that I'm fine with.
Anyone else notice the noise, we have a 2014 Boxster S and it is quiet even with sport exhaust open.
Is my car the exception or normal??
I forgot to say it's a Coupe
Normal. Believe it or not, the Coupe has more road noise than convertible. The rear of Coupe is like a sound box, road noise, tire noise resonates much more.

Our C7 Z51 seems louder than our C6 Z51.

I tried the BlockIt mats in the C6 and couldn't tell any difference, haven't tried them yet in the C7.

Someone should make carpeted covers for those cheap looking wheel humps in the C7, a good design could both improve the appearance and reduce the noise.

Welcome to sports cars, which are always a set of compromises for performance. That being said, I haven't found my GS to be noisy at all.

Look into adding the "Block-It" sound reading kit as it helped with the road noise on my coup. The open volume of the coup also tends to amplify the road noise.
