Legal? You bet! Those side marker lights are federally required to reduce accidents in low-light or night conditions. They are required to have so much candle power and reflectance at a given distance. CarGuy did not pass inspection with his other system for good reason. He dimmed the lights. Should he ever get into an accident (God forbid!) that involved those side marker lights, he could be found liable where he otherwise might not be. Here's a copy of the federal regs: https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-id...e49.6.571_1108 which give you an idea of the complexity of the issue. He bought these things off of Amazon and the seller has disclaimers such as "Not DOT approved" and "For off-road use only" to cover their own butts in case something happens.

I understand that aesthetically they look better, but damn I want to be seen at night. With my motorcycle I have installed ever possible (tastefully that is) reflective tape I can for just that reason.

Look good but the look does come with issues as mentioned in other post.

I don't truly understand this, It is like exhanging Sanity for Vanity.
Nothing better than NOT being able to see brake lights, tailights, side markers all for the sake of eye candy...........to each his own but just because you can do something, doesn't necessarily mean you should.

First off the brake lights are untouched. The marker covers are lightly smoked and light and reflection still show through. Plus if someone misses my car with its bright blue paint they have other issues.

Hey...if you want to take the chance, go for it!....I truly doubt any legal case can be made against you because they are "lightly smoked"....or can it?....define lightly...legally.....
Manufacturers produce a lens based on DOT requirements ...your film reduces the amount of light exiting and being reflected....but then again you already knew that and determined this reduction is OK. You want the "look".
You know best.......We all make choices....if you are OK with yours, go for it....
I'll play it my way....safe and legal.

I tinted the side markers and it looks fine to me. No I didn't think about any legal issues and still don't. Photo with tints and then lights on. The headlights and taillights aren't tinted and will show all the signaling I need.

Not the issue here. That's irrelevant.
They don't emit as much light as stock, and that's the issue. The DOT has dictated how much light should be emitted. You have circumvented that. At night, your Laguna Blue isn't "bright." It looks black. The "other issues" they might have consist of running into your car and claiming they "didn't see you" because you tinted the lights. That turns their liability into yours. It's your gamble and not anybody else's problem, but sometimes "looking good" is not in your best interests.

Everytime I come to this forum after buying another Corvette, threads like this remind me exactly why I rarely ever visit it. The people here love to tell you how stupid you are for your choices. Corvette owners talk about being family, yet they are the most hypocritical, judgemental group of people I have met in my 38 years on this planet.
