C7 of Year Finalist (appearance mods) 2019
Default My 2016 Z51 turned into a 2017 Camaro ZL1

I recently traded in my A8 16 Z51 for the 17 A10 Camaro ZL1 and I'm wondering if anyone else on the forum has done the same as I did? I still have my wife's 16 Z51 in the garage with the new Camaro so I really didn't give up having a C7 to drive. The ZL1 is certainly a different car wrt to the interior as its cockpit volume/space for the driver and front passenger cause me to to feel like I'm driving a sedan. Performance wise, the ZL1 is a "Beast" (as it is called now). BTW...the A10 is FABULOUS so far! So far I have no regrets trading in my C7 for the ZL1 but I wonder if I'm one of the few (if any?) C7 drivers who went the route that I just did? Just curious and TY!

No doubt the Camaro ZL1 is a beast BUT the Corvette is both a beauty and a beast.

The fact that you owned two C7's makes you a little unique I suspect

The ZL1 is an awesome car so I doubt you will be the first or last to trade a Corvette towards one.

If I could only have one I would own a Corvette based on looks and driving dynamics alone. But if I was spending that much money I would probably spend a few grand more and get a Z06.

Prior to my recent purchase June 2017, of my
C7 Z-51, I contemplated a ZL1. Just sitting in it made me feel very uncomfortable.

You can't see out of it. It gets terrible fuel mileage, and for a daily driver, which for me, it would be horrible. It also felt heavy and huge.

BTW, I purchased my $70,000 C7 for the price of the $63,000 ZL1 due to the 10% C7 discount offered ftom GM for June.

For me, my purchase of a corvette is as much, if not more about the class factor, and no Camaro regardless of performance can match a corvette in that aspect. That said, it it fits what you're seeking in a car, more power to ya!

I considered it and aGT350, but then it wouldn't be a Vette, nuff said. My wife was pissed I was trading after 1 year but she too said it had to be another Vette, so kept her happy. But if you're happy you did great!

Points taken....here is my take....I can see great out of it and it has side collision warning and rear cross traffic warning features which the C7 I had from 2016 did not offer. I could see out of my C7 just as easily as I can out of the ZL1. My city mileage so far is just under 18 mpg. I've not had it on the highway yet. It is a larger car in some respects (interior-wise) but when it and our C7 are in the garage side by side, they are generally the same length and width. The cost was discounted off of sticker and I wasn't shopping for another C7 as I already have one. So for me, having a change in the DD has been refreshing so far and to me it drives just as well when cornering as our C7 but it is much faster than the C7. It has served my purchasing purpose so far. I guess that having two "Beasts" in the garage is a good "thing".

I have a 13 ZL1. Great car so I imagine the new one is even better. There are people on here that have both 17 Z06 and 17 ZL1. There was also a dealer on CF that had a 17 ZL1 for sale with super low miles that someone traded for a Z06.

I also bought a 17 ZL1. I sold my 02 coupe and bought the ZL1. I kept my 15 Z51.

Surprised how good the gas mileage is on the ZL1. Expected it to be bad bud got 18.5 on my first tank with no highway driving.

was at the dealer getting my powerstop break pads installed and looked at the Camaros. Even though it's got a backseat it amazed me how little room there really was for backseat passengers. Even a 5 year old would be crushed. Its a great car with the 650hp but may as well be a two seater

I had a '14 Z51 I traded for a '16 Z06/Z07.

I kept the Z06 and bought a 1SS 1LE Camaro to be my daily driver. I wanted a 1LE car, but wasn't going to wait and get a 1LE ZL1 since I don't like wings on cars.

I'm really enjoying the Camaro, the 1LE handles incredibly well for a car of its size and the interior is pretty nice too. Next checkbox item: Whipple or Procharger for the 1LE.

Congrats on the ZL1

Yeah, pretty much my feelings about my Camaro and the '15 Mustang GT PP I had when they launched. The seats are there, but I feel bad for the amputee you put back there if the people in the front seat are taller than 5'4" and need to move the seat back.

And here I thought his Corvette actually transformed into a Camaro...

For those who have switched over, how much do you feel extra weight? Personally the looks put me off of the 'Maro, but that limited visibility is the deal breaker.

That said, congrats OP, drive on and enjoy those 650 horses!

Congrats OP. My buddy is contemplating getting into a ZL1 coupe now from his C7Z. I personally wouldn't be satisfied going from a corvette to a camaro. that's just my take on it.

I am impressed with the 6gen inside and out, it is by far the best Camaro ever made. But... two things, the C7 Coupe has that open cockpit feel whenever you like, the camaro's moonroof does nothing for me. i have moonroofs i never use them I take the top off my C7Z more than open the roof on my other vehicles. and it's the best of both worlds, Driving a C7 islike being in a fighter jet it feels special. sitting in the car even engine off it's "special". Sitting in the new camaro is nice.... but nice isn't what gets my juices flowing, gives me that gotta take drive feeling. Like you said, it's big inside, but still can't put people in the back. So in essence what you have is a bloated, higher riding 9/10ths Z06 without the striking shape and uniqueness of being on the ground..

The ZL1 is beautiful but the Corvette is everything that car is sprinkled with a bit of exotic, supercar, and and the feeling of being indestructible...

i wish you the best with it, as a daily driver? i see no issues. but if it's the weekend toy? Nothing can touch the look and feel of the Corvettes of today.

For me and only me.......I wouldn't consider it.....I'm in a city and see/pass around 10 camaros 10 dodges 7 mustangs and I might see 1 or 2 c7. Most camaros I see are driven by high school chicks with wealthy parents. I'm impressed by the value of the zl1....but for me it's a mullet/chicks car.....a beginners sports car.

I went the opposite way, 15 2SS 1LE Camaro to a 14 3LT Vette..

The 1LE handled better than my vette, even changing to the Z51 shocks is no where near the ability of the 1 LE...

The Vette gets better gas mileage, has more acceleration and all around better

I still smiled every time I drove both, they are both GREAT CARS just different

Now that ZL1 1LE is going to be a DREAM OF A CAR if they get it right
