I only paid $600 for my 5 year insurance on the wheel and tire for my 2017 Grand Sport. Already had two rear tires replaced at under 2k miles that would have cost me $1200 if I didn't get the insurance. YMMV.

Extended warranties are interesting...when my neighbor purchases a vehicle with extended warranty of any kind, that vehicle will have every issue related to the warranty. If there is no warranty, his vehicles never have issues. Funny how that works. I think that we tend to be less careful when we think we won't have to pay for it. These "warranties" are for the most part a waste of money IMSO. I expect to have a little fun when I through money away.

I passed on it and starting to wish I had not. I just bent all 4 wheels on my '17 GS with only 2,500 miles on it. Had nothing to do with not being careful. It was just a bad expansion joint on the interstate that I could not avoid.

Check with your State DOT. Many have programs to pay for damages due to poorly designed and maintained roadways. You cannot possibly be the only one that this has happened to.

I've talked to multiple people already and have come to the conclusion that it's pointless. I'm working with my insurance company to handle the repairs and going to let them pursue the state department if they wish. Indiana DOT is almost impossible.

I just took delivery of a 2018 GS, and after looking at the size of the tires decided that wheel and tire insurance would give me piece of mind.
They charged $699.00 for five years of coverage and I find that reasonable, IMO, $1,500.00 is not, and I would not have gotten it for that amount.

You per say can forget about the rim if it will roll at all not covered. Plus now BMW you pay the first 50.00 on a tire are rim.

did you read the fine print in some of these service contracts for wheels and tires.they state if anything needs replacing you need to claim thru your regular insurer first and they will cover the difference excluding your the deductible

I"m just adding this information about the Tire Road Hazard Protection warranty that TireRack for new tires provides for free.

Tires are covered for 24 months from the date of purchase or until 2/32" or less of tread remains, whichever occurs first.

Repairs are reimbursed up to $25 per tire per occurrence.

During the 24 month benefit period, you will be reimbursed for 100% of the original cost of the tire covered by the Tire Road Hazard Protection, subject to the limitations set forth in the Protection Certificate.

Looks good for when you need new tires, but I needed something for my factory tires/wheels

I bought it because we have a lot of home updates going on in our neighborhood and I have picked up nails and screws in other tires. Have not used it yet but did find out the hard way it does not cover curb rash. Plus our roads have some potholes so figured it might come in handy. But all that said I bought the tire/wheel protection and an extended warranty primarily for the electronics gremlins that may pop up. Haven't used either one...

But I have another couple of years left on the coverage so only time will tell if the investment was worth it.

I paid $495 for 5 year CNA policy. Well worth it. I'm a GSM in a Mercedes dealership and our agent did me a favor. We sell plenty of policies on MB's every month. Wouldn't buy a car without it.

When I brought my 17 GS for its' first oil change at 500 miles, I was emailed a report which told me that my tires were in the "caution" range because the tread depth was low. The report is attached to this post. Using this report, I could be filing for new tires every 1,000 miles!
