Corvette roller coaster for a first time buyer
...... I've been lurking the last six months or so while making my decision on my first Corvette and wanted to say this board has been great even for a lurker! After weighing my options I settled on a 2017 Corvette Grand Sport in arctic white with carbon flash and a black interior and I couldn't have been happier UNTIL a month in when nearly every panel (22 individual spots) began having the arctic white paint chip and or peel. Everyone here could imagine my panic when I noticed and realized my problem couldn't be fixed with a paint pin. Luckily for me I have a great dealer who worked it out to basically "even swap" my disastrous paint peeling Wonder-Vette for a 2017 Grand Sport Collector's Edition number 619 and I was thrilled to finally put it in my garage last night and wave buh-bye to my "First Corvette". I will preface my good deal with the fact the owner of my local dealership lives directly next door to me and the business I own purchases a few dozen trucks from him annually so I'll pay for it one way or another haha.
Below is my new first-ish Corvette and I'll post some pictures of the paint issue my white one had.

Glad you got satisfaction. I don't know the dealership, but, I seriously doubt the run of the mill customer would have gotten taken care of that way when you read the rants from others on this forum about dealers. Pays to be friends with the owner and a huge customer

Glad it all worked out for you but still had to be a big disappointment with the paint issue. Nice upgrade though, enjoy it.

That's a great-looking car!
Tell me more about the "Arctic White Paint Chip/Peel" if you have time, as I bought a new Arctic White/Black 2017 GS back on April 29th

"In honor of jpee"
And I tend to think, being your immediate next door neighbor had a lot to do with it. Still, it's a nice thing to do since it's almost impossible to believe there was any fault on your part.

Thanks guys and this is sad to admit but until two nights ago when I finally got my replacement home I couldn't even read the forums for more than ten seconds because anything Corvette related reminded me I was in limbo and had no 100% concrete resolution.
As for my arctic white GS.... I'll post pics now and I also have pictures on my dealer's lot of other arctic white GS's with ZERO MILES doing the same as mine in identical locations. Oh and I forgot to mention the front bumper of my white disaster had a 24" plus line of white paint peeling back from the edges.
Ehhh my dealers isn't THAT GREAT..... I bought three or four work trucks a year ago and my dealership happened to have a promotion going for the month of June, if you bought a new truck you got a free Yeti Cooler with your purchase. I stopped by on July 2nd to sign some docs and jokingly asked for my three or four coolers and the finance manager was like umm err uh duh um yeah ask "dealership owner" soooo I jokingly asked him and we laughed until I said "seriously though I'd like one cooler to give my father in law"....... AND THIS INCIDENT is why I spent four weeks thinking he might leave me out to dry on my Corvette since he proved he could be so stingy about a $500 freaking cooler.

........ Attached are pictures of my GS and it's paint problems and then a picture of another white GS for sale on my dealer's lot that's having the same issues BUT it has 5 miles on the odometer compared to the couple thousand miles that my old GS has.
I have really studied this issue and hate to say I'm an expert cuz I'm not..... obsessive compulsive would be an appropriate description though.
From my studies it appears to happen almost exclusively to white 2017 Grand Sport models. I found a couple year old red C7 Stingray with identical paint issues but that was the only outlier of the eight or ten I found with issues. As you see in the pictures it appears in each instance that the rear wheel panel and the rear bumper "panel or whatever" do not have the appropriate gap between panels and they are rubbing against each other to start the same problem. Another area of the car without enough room for the panels to flex is around the headlights and once again the space between panels is damn near nonexistent causing things to rub.
I've came up with a fix which is to loosen one of the panels and pull it about 1/5" and tighten it back down giving it some gap.
