Default Apple CarPlay! How often do you use it and is it worth it?

I bought my corvette used and it doesn't come with navigation nor does it have apple carplay.

I've reached out to Infotainment system and they have a OEM setup for $1400.

My question is.... is it worth it or not? Do you use it enough daily?

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but being around various car forums online for years leads me to believe it very much depends on you age. I'm 39, I use it non stop. It's my music streaming, live nav and maps, voice command texting, calling, reads out my texts and honestly, it's really good at it. I haven't been annoyed once as long as I speak instructions clearly. So in my 16, hands down, my favorite non-performance related option.

Almost 100% of the time, love how it handles texts while I'm driving.

I use it too, it's nice. Is it $1400 nice? Not to me.

I use my iphones as they were made to be used, independently, or with other apple products. To try and interphase them with inferior GM components makes everything glitchy. Why bother? Jmo

I use it regularly. I find Siri (despite all its flaws) to be better than GM's nav unit.

I have used Car Play on longer Interstate drives. Around town, I much prefer to listen to the exhaust. Really depends on you.

I do like it, but the whole system is just slow and flaky. Wish it was more responsive and reliable, but I do still use it.

Anyone know what the current version of the Infotainment firmware is, maybe mine is out of date....

Hands free texting, voice navigation that works, all my playlists are in the cloud so they go where my phone is not where my car is. If you utilize the technology then yes it's worth it.....if you don't think you'll actually use it and you'll just look at the icon then no.....maybe if you buy it you'll be forced to throw the music to the cloud and wonder why you didn't do it sooner

I use Android Auto every time I get in the car unless I'm just driving to the grocery store across the street.

I just use my I-phone to play Pandora after the car and phone link up with each other. SirusXM made me an offer of $30 for six months. I took that deal and when I'm out of cell range, I tune in SirusXM. I don't try to send texts, but I like them being read to me by the car. Also, phone calls are a cinch.

My car is a daily driver. I use the systems everyday. I really love the C7. Some of my friends tell me that I'm obsessive about the car. That's impossible. (grin)

Carplay is far from perfect, but I do use it all the time in my dd. Streaming music has much better sound quality than XM. The Maps app works great, also. Voice phone and texting work nicely. Spotify has the most glitches. Slacker and Pandora work much better.

I work in the tech industry (dare I say, even at one of the companies who provides in car operating systems) and would definitely be considered a "nerd" in pretty much everything, but I never use Carplay. Having said this, I always get NAV as I like having offline access to maps and traffic, but I dont see the benefit of integrating to this extent with a phone.

Here we go again. FYI, we "senior citizens" know how to use technology too.

I'm 65 and use it about as much as you describe...except I use Android Auto for navigation, voice commands, Pandora, and phone calls. I use SMS to listen to my text messages and have over 4,000 songs on a SanDisk Ultrafit flashdrive plugged into the USB port in the center console.

I do agree with you in that it's a great system as far as I'm concerned and I use it all the time. It's too bad the onboard GM navigation/voice recognition is so clunky and horrible. Google runs circles around it.

I purposely waited until it was available in the 2016 model year to get my vette and use Car Play daily. I like the convenience and safety of voice to text and siri reading me my texts. Also use Apple Music and love the ability to listen to any song at the touch of the button. I liked it so much, I traded in my daily driver for a new daily driver that had Car Play.

Correction: *Some* senior citizens know how to use technology. However I must say, being in the business for some 40 years now I know lots of people who know technology and lots who don't. And by far, older people know less and in general stay away from technology. Don't get me wrong, my aunt who was in her 80's before she passed, used technology. And yet I have buddies younger than me who also don't know tech very well. But lots of older people don't. They never had to use it much in their lives and careers and pine for the old days.

So yes, there are both young and old who eschew tech but as a group, more older people do than younger people.

I do agree with you in that it's a great system as far as I'm concerned and I use it all the time. It's too bad the onboard GM navigation/voice recognition is so clunky and horrible. Google runs circles around it.
Someday that too will change - https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017...udi-and-volvo/

Use it daily - as my car is my dd -- and quite like it....it has gotten better for me with the recent update - the one that shows the shortcuts on the left.

I just got one of the new S8's so I will now be playing with Android Auto to see how it works
