Default Storage compartment shelf needs additional light

I recently bought the cool dash storage accessory that fits inside the pseudo-hidden compartment. (Bin Buddy)

It fits well and looks like it belongs - as others have pointed out. The one thing I don't care for is the bottom half is totally dark since the light is on top. Now I have to come up with a good solution.

Any ideas? You'd think someone would've made a tiny stick-on LED by now but no luck.

Turn on the compartment light?

This doesn't bother me much at all. One thing that's a pain is trying to plug in a USB cable in there with the Bin Buddy in.

You could get something like this that plugs into the USB port. Just cut the led string and power cord to size. You'd lose your port though.

Amazon Amazon

That's a possibility. ...and if you drive much at night, you will find that lower space is almost useless.

Put a tiny LED flashlight in the compartment. You should be carrying one anyway for roadside emergencies.

A little flashlight is certainly a low budget solution, but I'm looking for something a bit more professional/permanent.

The Bin Buddy Deluxe with lower section illumination built in and powered by usb with additional usb multiplug built in. (doesn't exist yet, but now that we planted the seed, it can't be too far in the future)

You might try something like this:

Amazon Amazon

With something like this:

Amazon Amazon

And now I might try it myself! Funny how you don't know something is a problem until someone tells you it is

Great idea. Would also be nice if an "upgrade" with the light kit could be added to the current version.

This may work. I have one on the cover of my truck. If I get a chance tomorrow I'll pop it out to see how deep it is.

There certainly is no shortage of 1st world problems here.

So juvenile really. What, a guy can't point out an area of improvement without the negative comments?

I didn't take that as negative, Both comments were tongue - in - cheek.

Perhaps there is room in the rear to slip in this flexible cord shown below. If not just need to notch the shelf with a rat tail file to make room.

This light plugs into the USB that provides power only when you start the car. That is where I am currently getting power for my Garmin I have installed in the cubby.

Juvenile?

I don't think so, and no negativity intended. When I read this thread, I was amused because it reminded me of the silly things (1st world problems) I sometimes worry about. I now usually reel myself back in by reminding myself of how lucky I am in comparison to most people on the planet.

Plus, I think my 2" LED flashlight in the compartment is easier than finding the switch on a light that I've plugged into that compartment and provides better light where I actually need it.

That, and trying to insert a USB cord into the slot with the Bin Buddy shelf limiting access. Best to get a sweet, young thing with slender hands to help. ;-)
