Default Past MSRP discounts

Was wondering if any of you have any memory of past discounts for C7? Were there anyinitial discounts off of MSRP from the large dealers when the 2017 came out in2016? Or did those 10% then 12% discounts show up only later? Are these discounts perhaps only happeningbecause of impending plant upgrades. Do you think there will be some similardiscounts on 2018? Trying to weigh the differencesbetween a new build 2017 and a new build 2018.

I ordered a 17 GS in late July. I was able to get it at supplier pricing through a contact of mine, but most of the big discounts came much later.

Do you remember what the discount for others was in July? I only started pricing the C7 when the discount was at 10% and that was around January I think. I was trying to figure out if these discounts are somewhat what they do every year...or totally unique to this years model.

Based on what has happened in previous years, I would expect leftover '17s on dealer lots to be sold for discounts up to 20% once the '18 models start to arrive. This won't be until the Fall. There have already been '17s offered at up to 15% off. I doubt you will see discounts on '18s in excess of supplier pricing, about 6-7% off. JMHO.

Between all available offers I was able to get a 17 GS 1LT from Kerbeck for 19.5% off in March.

I purchased a Vett and Chevy truck last year and received a Conquest Discount on both. Not sure if those are still offered.

The 18's will start off a bit more aggressive compared to 17s because the design is another year older and nothing worth a lick is changed from 17-18.

The 17s started out at around 8% then went to 10% then went to 12% PLUS any incentives you qualify for (loyalty, bonus tag, etc.) They are and have been at 12% for several months from a couple of the forum dealers. Some other forum dealers are currently still at 10 or 11%.

I would think the 18s will start off around 8% or so and then IMO go quickly to 10%. Not sure if loyalty will stay but that's another $2K off.

I just went on forum dealers profiles and went back to last year late spring and read their posts to get the numbers above ^^^

Yes, I am aware of the great discounts on the in stock models. I was interested in the discounts on new orders only.

Z0Sick6 thank you! That is exactly what I wanted to know. So the difference between buying a 2017 (new build) now and a 2018 (new build) at the beginning of model year..... would be the difference between an initial 8% and a possible 10 to 12% later in the year. So it would boil down to about 3k plus any increase in prices for 2018. Thanks for doing the research.

Your forgetting one valuable point. Discounts are pegged to how well the cars are selling, or not. Just because you see discounts in one certain range has nothing to do with possible future discounts. Sales determine everything.

Obviously..it is conjuncture...but often the past gives hints about the future. I did not think about researching forum info from the past...duh on my part. But after Z0Sick6 had the very smart idea...I went back to research past years/posts/ads and the discount% have been in the same ballpark for C7s even from previous years. I don't expect the sales of the C7 to drastically change for next year. I am comfortable in the conclusion that before the end of the year there will be some kind of discount offered on 2018 and that it will be in the neighborhood of 8% more or less...and increase as the year goes on. So one would pay about 4% more (plus price increase for a 2018) at first half of year for 2018 as opposed to 2017 at end of this years production.

Save money by waiting for a discount..........no car to drive. At what point does any of this become worthwhile?

If you really want to save then buy used. C7's are depreciating so fast its almost scary.

Thanks, but I'm not trying to save money by waiting for a discount I just wanted to be informed of what has been the history of discounts in the past. No harm in that, right?

There is a website that you may find of interest. It's called wayback machine. Here is the link: https://archive.org/web/

You can type in any website that's been around for a while and see what they were offering at different snapshots in time. This can give you an idea what different volume dealers were doing for years in the past.

direct007...thanks for the archive website reference. Great site that really helps with research, especially car related pricing. Helped me decide to wait until the fall to get serious about a 2017 C7 purchase.

I have found the fall to be one of the best times to buy a new car. There are usually great incentives for leftovers from the current year with plenty of inventory still available and the new model year cars are readily available for comparison.

All great points for waiting until later in the year to get a 2017. The archive website really put things into a helpful monetary context for me.

PS. Grew up in South Jersey...Williamstown and Cape May.

OP, apologies for the temporary thread high jack!
