Has anyone bought a C7 and put it on www.turo.com for rent to the public? - Wondering if anyone has experience using the the turo money to pay off your corvette, while making some cash on the side.

If you can't afford the car without renting it out to pay it off, I suggest you not buy one.

If I badly wanted one but could only afford it if I rented it out then yes I would take the chance.

I just checked a couple of locations on Turo and C7 Corvettes are out there. I would never do it. People that rent your car are going to drive the **** out of it and not care. Just not worth it.

^^^
That would almost be like renting out my wife and/or girlfriend... It's "just" a car but I can only imagine the abuse it might take.

Not everyone that rents a car beats the crap out of it. But most do.

If it were an automatic you may be OK, but I'd be concerned about my clutch being abused with a manual.

Overall though, I'm with Garret on this.

I just did a little checking on this. If you are not a commercial company you can leverage Turo to provide insurance to the person renting. They will pay cash value for your car if it is totaled (which for Corvette's probably means wholesale) and if it is wrecked and needs repair they will give you $30 a day for a rental for a maximum of 10 days. Anything beyond 10 days means you are paying for a rental out of pocket or using an alternate car.

I would think that you would 100% want to steer away from making a claim on your own insurance and I would read the fine print with GM warranty and any extended warranty you may have bought because if you rent your car and they find out is may result in warranty denial. Not sure because I don't plan on renting mine but for those of you that are interested I would do your home work and be prepared to take a big loss if the car is wrecked or totaled. IMHO it would be very hard to sell a C7 Corvette that has a negative Carfax history. Most people will either demand a lowball price, or will just not even consider your car. Dealers will also take advantage of a negative history at trade-in.

I just can't imagine the risk being worth the reward on a Corvette.

Let's say you paid $55K for your LT1 Corvette out the door. That car is probably worth about $36-40K wholesale depending on mileage and year.

Not everyone who rents a Corvette has ever driven a high horsepower RWD car either.

Just wait till your insurance co. finds out you are renting it. Your rates will skyrocket.

I do not think your insurance would cover it. Personal use or pleasure use does not mean renting. You would have to tell them your are renting it and then pay, as already stated, the skyrocket premiums.

I think you would have to get a commererical insurance policy? Not sure, but in the case of Turo you simply opt to have them cover the insurance for the renters. Which means they take a bigger cut of the money.

But if you rent the car on Turo and use their provided insurance you should never have to contact your insurance company if there is an accident.

Two common sayings

What goes places your car would never go? A rental car!

That will be the day I put premium gas in a rental!

I doubt Turo carries anything near the amount of liability insurance you would really need in addition to the above statements.
