I have an M7 but my wife's new car will be a Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring with a CVT and paddles. I'm really interested to see how that works long-term. Our short drive was fun. Maybe if my left knee gets worse I'll swap my M7 coupe for an A8 coupe.

I love using the paddles when I'm doing a side by side rolling start. It keeps me in the HIGH HP range and gives me a big jump over the just floor it crowd...

I mostly drive mine in "tour" mode and manual. D sometimes, but M is my style of choice.

Enjoy!

The performance shifting mode kicks in when it is D and sport and/or track mode. Not aware of any performance paddle shifting mode...

Hi....do you know if GM has resolved the issues with the A8?

I am only a few weeks from ordering my first Corvette and because of my age, it's likely my last. We are high mileage travelers and my joints act up, so as much as I would enjoy a manual, I figure it's best to go with the A8, until today when I started to read about all of the troubles folks have had with them.

Then I read about orange peel paint and panel fitment issues. I might need to rethink this dream. Depressing.

Well people will disagree with me about this, but my opinion is the main unresolved issue with the A8 is mostly caused by GM's AFM system (V4 mode). If you disable AFM you will likely not have problems prematurely. Either way, the percentage of vehicles having a problem is pretty low. As far as the paint and fitment, have you spent some time looking at the cars at the dealer? Test drive, etc. and see what you think for yourself. Not sure what you prefer for high mileage travel, but the car is pretty stiff sprung and made for staying planted on the road. Not the most comfortable ride, and it has quite a bit of road noise too.

Default A8 and paddle

Take off fuse 42, and drive in 3rd around town and when you downshift I love the popping sound.

It's interesting, I love using the paddles, especially for the downshifts. There is something about that popping and burbling that put's a smile on my face. With that being said, I also love the fast upshifts the transmission does on it's own. The paddles can't compete with how smooth and fast the upshifts are.

So I would say I drive in hybrid mode. Paddles for downshifts and I let the computer handle all the upshifts.
