Well unless you specifically want a new car I might suggest a 2014 with an A6 transmission. They are bullet proof, zero issues and the cars still are getting 30 plus mpg on the open road. Lots of low mile 14's out there.

If you put it in the shop, record the milage.

5,000 miles on my '16 Z-51. A few hundred miles in, I noticed what felt like the tranny hanging up on the first to second shift. This was before I'd read of the A8 issues. Back to Kerbeck I went. Before I took it in, I received a phone call from the dealer asking if I still wanted to come in, as the rough shift is "normal". I went in anyway. The mechanic drove it, said it was "fine". Later, when I read about the A8 issues, I felt I'd been blown off by the dealer. Since then it throws the occasional odd shift, but less and less often. They should have had an honest discussion with me about known A8 issues, and told me it needs time to learn your driving habits.

my 2017 A-8 seems pretty good so far (only 400 miles) had one time it felt like I was hit in the back, I was slowing down to pull into my driveway. As others have said 1st to 2nd can be a little rough. I think these cars are just asking to go. They dont want to be babied.

I have a 2016 A8 Stingray with 2900 miles on it and have had no problems to date, although I do experience an occasional rough 1 -2 shift. Overall, it is a relatively smooth shifting transmission.

My 2015 A8, Z06, 12,000 miles no problems. It runs as designed, I love it in all modes and speeds.

OP, I am monitoring every post concerning A8s and some owners tell me 10K miles is when the A8 manifests issues if it ever does. You may have to wait and see as none of the answers are anywhere near that mileage on their 2017 purchases......

Mine has been perfect. Build date of Oct 15. No rough shifts going from 1 to 2, or vice versa. Have never had a rough shift going from park to drive. I drive mine pretty hard too, and have almost 24,000 miles on it. I had to replace the tires at 12,000, so that ought to tell you how "spirited" I drive it.

This is actually a correct statement. I have asked a few Certified Vette wrenchers and they said at about 10k miles on these new engines is when they really start to get broken in. At 10k miles you will know if your A8 will need addressing. Most people commenting are under 10k, so time will tell. I am still holding out, almost pulled the trigger twice!

My 2016 Stingray coupe has the smoothest auto tranny I have ever driven. I never notice when it shifts in city driving. It is always in the correct gear for all my drives. It is one $1726 option that is worth the money. JMHO

Late 2016 with April build, 4K miles and no issues. It does seem to shift a little oddly once in a while at low speeds but I think this is just the way it shifts and is not a mechanical issue.

2016 Z06 with A8 built in August 2015. I have over 11K with absolutely no issues with hard shifts or anything else transmission related. Let's hope it holds up!

Default Warble sound

Any of you 2016 owners have the warble sound at about 1500 rpm ? I have it but doesn't bother me. There is a big thread on this and a YouTube video if you don't know what it sounds like.
