Why?

Why?
Had this happen to me yesterday...
Park in a lot away from everybody to avoid door dings, there were no cars near me. When I was going out to my car I saw something on the passenger front and rear rim. Get close and it was some type of pink wax on the same lug nut on the front and rear rim. Was definitely not there when I parked in the morning. My only thought is that some knucklehead must have thought it would be funny to do that.
What's your why would anyone do that story?

very strange. I highly doubt someone would just put pink waxy substance on two different lugs. My guess is one of 2 things: There was something on the roadway that both wheels hit and caused this, or there was something more sinister happening but you interrupted it????

It is odd that it was the exact same lug nut on both rims...

In situations like this I assign percentage to possibilities. What is the percentage chance of some one carrying pink wax on them? What's the percentage that they thought it was funny? That they thought they were getting the man? I would say the chance you did not see it on the way in is sooo much higher.

At the end of the day just glad it wasn't anything serious.

First off, I have no idea what might have actually happened, but since we're throw WAGs out there, It seems odd that that stuff might have shown up on two separate wheels in the exact same spot from road kick-up. Seems deliberate to me.
That said, who knows when or where it might have been applied, unless you inspect your car minutely every time you leave it and when you return. It might have been yesterday, or the day before when you were picking up groceries or take-out, or whatever you were stopped for.

Pure speculation but easy to check.

Melting Slicks
Ouch!
The only stuff I know that color that also eats paint is called Naval Jelly. (It'll remove rust, paint, and anything else, down to bare metal. Neutralizes with fresh water, IIRC
