Are colored brake calipers hard to keep clean? Do all rotors rust?

Not sure why this is not used on Z51 brake rotors.
From your link: FNC-treated rotors have a 400-micron (one-tenth the width of a human hair) layer of protection.
From what I've read it's not used on the Z51 rotors because the Z51 has a lot more aggressive brake pad that would quickly cut through the thin coating so GM decided it's not worth the effort and cost.
30 min after washing and left wet.

The rotor coating is not meant to stay on the rotor where the pad meets it, it's meant for the non contact surfaces. For the two piece rotors, you can spray those surfaces with a high temp paint to prevent rust.

Basically if you only wash your car once a month and drive it 2500 miles between washings, then yes, they're hard to keep clean. But if you wash your car regularly, and swap out the dusty factory pads (if Z51 optioned) to Powerstop ceramics, then your calipers will stay clean and what little dust does accumulate will be easy to wipe off without special wheel cleaning tools or chemicals.

Seeing various color combos that catch my eye. Some include red brake calipers. Are these hard to keep clean? Any special care required?
Also, I read where certain vettes have optional carbon brake rotors, gulf sport/Z06 perhaps. Would this prevent the rusting I see on rotors in images of forum members cars? Wasn't sure if all rotors are subject to rusting. Thanks for your patience and any insights.

Best thing I did was powder coat them.

No, they are not hard to keep clean...I use either Dawn dishwashing soap or Griot's Garage Spray Wheel Cleaner. However, the secret is two things: 1. Frequent washing. 2. A variety of weapons.
Good luck and Semper Fi
PS - Forgot to mention - change your OEM brake pads to ceramic pads from whoever...I selected Carbotech. No regrets and no brake dust.

I painted the calipers on my C5 and they are not difficult to keep looking good. Wash the car often, including the calipers and they will look good for a long time.
