Yes, I've had a very successful career using statistics, and I understand sampling methodology very well, so I understand your valid point regarding the sample size here. However, the noise about A8 problems isn't just a CF forum hot topic. It's been reported in the automotive trade media repeatedly. Moreover, the vast majority of those 23K A8 owners don't participate in internet car forums.

Given volume of complaints, there is certainly a reason to be concerned, but only GM has valid data on the extent of the problem. It seems clear that they understand it's a much bigger problem than what would normally be acceptable because they are constantly tweaking the A8, and rumor has it that it will be abandoned soon.

Where are you hearing a rumor that it could be abandoned soon?

GM claims it's not going away in the Corvette, but there is this:

I'm sure they will continue to doggedly try to fix it, unless they decide it's just more cost-effective to go in a different direction.

Also muddling the conclusion is the fact that the 8-speed isn’t going away, it’s slotted to continue in the Camaro, Corvette, Cadillac sedans and GM’s full-size pickups.

It’s possible we see both the A8 and A10 coexist. Similar to the Camaro SS and ZL1, we could see the 8-speed handling lower trims and the 10-speed reserved for the higher end models like ZL1 and Denali.

I read this as the A10 being added along with the A8 but didn't get the abandoned soon rumor. Thanks for the link though.

Yep, that's what GM is saying today and "muddling" is the key word, but I've seen manufacturers reverse field very quickly as often as not. It all depends upon whether they can get the A8 up to a reasonable reliability std. I suspect they can, but my reading suggests that they are hedging their bets.

It would be oh so much more profitable to have one bullet-proof automatic trannie that could be tuned appropriately to work across all of their platforms, as most manufacturers do these days. If the A8 were that platform, why all the effort put into the A10?

I just quickly plucked one link out of the ether, but others are "reading the tea leaves differently." Stay tuned . . .

So is it "fixed", or not?
It only overheats under extensive 'track' time. Having said that I took the Ron Fellows COS, and did lap after lap with 20 other students in 90 degree Nevada heat. Never and issue on any car. On longer track times the did have us shift into 5 when possible. My current Zo6 has NEVER, overheated. The A8 is perfect IMHO.

Then you weren't pushing it at all. Their 2.2 mile track is relatively easy on the transmission and the shorter track they use for the 2 day class is even easier. On the 2.2 (and 2.4 for level 2) I overheated the 2015 Z51 and the guy in my level 1 run group with an A8 Z06 overheated his (they don't use Z06's for level 2).

On a track that a little tougher I can overheat it in 10 minutes when its 60 degrees. That's facts, not opinion.

The more you read some comments on forums the less faith you have in the human race.
What is the problem with some folks? You have no problems with your car - well GOOD FOR YOU. Consider yourself blessed. Look in the mirror and kiss yourself. But maybe you could refrain from criticizing those who aren't as fortunate as you? In fact don't even reply if the post does't apply to you. That will reduce the clutter for those seeking answers.

We all paid roughly the same money to purchase our cars (give or take). It hurts that you are thrilled with your purchase, but I am not thrilled with mine. Show respect. This is my 6th Vette, I am not a novice performance car owner. Those of you goofing on us will definitely never be part of the solution, and the way you "think" shows you are part of the problem.
Enough.

For those who provided value to this thread, Thank You. That is why we have a forum. Just sorry you had to read my rant.

You do know you are on the C7 General Discussion which includes both positive and negative comments on just about anything to do with the car.
