Default C7 NPP vs C6 NPP Sound

I recently traded my 2011 C6 GS with NPP (fuse pulled) for a 2016 Stingray with NPP. I have had the exhaust set in Track Mode, but decided to pull the fuse last night. I can hear more of a rumble when downshifting and coming to a stop which is very nice. However, I don't think the exhaust is as aggressive sounding as my C6 GS was...

Has anyone else experienced the same? I had the top out and it was a bit windy... Perhaps it was just my ears.

I had a 2012 GS with M/W switch and agree with you. My C7 NPP is probably .db wise as loud or almost as loud, but a different sound. The 12GS definitely sounds to me more "muscle car" like. I see your pretty new to the forum so before you ask and get flamed by the grumpy ones around here; no there is NOT a M/W switch being sold that I know of for the C7. LOL

I have the fuse pulled on my 2015 and it definitely has a different sound than my 2008 with the mtw control. A lot more popping on the downshift with the 2008 and a deeper slightly louder exhaust note akso.

I think you both describe the difference perfectly. It doesn't have near the popping on the downshifts (that I loved!), nor that overall muscle car note. Don't get me wrong, it sounds very nice, just not quite as raw...

I agree completely, My C6 NPP sounds better than my C7 NPP, remedied that by putting Corsa's on my C7.

I would love to put Corsa's or SOMETHING on my C7, but the LEO's in my burb are really tough on excessive noise. When I drive my corvette in the summer to work I leave between 4:30 am and 5:00 am. Just me and the LEO's out at that time of the morning. I don't want to give them anything to do
Also probably pi** off the neighbors with the cold start at 4:00am

X-pipe will get you where you want to go, either Corsa or Borla. I had the Corsa double helix and really liked it. Well, now running catted long tubes with NPP and it sounds bad to the bone!!!

Don't want to hijack the OP thread; but did the X-pipe make enough diff in sound to warrant the cost? I understand it doesn't do much alone (no tune etc.) for performance.

An X-pipe will most likely reduce any popping sound on deceleration. So for those who want the popping back from their C6, I'm not sure it will do what you want.

I had a 2011 GS as well and now a 2016 C7. I agree, the C6 sounded a little better to my ears. However, I did not own them back to back.

Seems to be a pretty good consensus that an X-pipe is worth the money. Not for any HP, but will add some deeper tones that sounded good to my ears...

Traded my NPP C6 with fuse pulled last week for a C7 NPP and the C6 definitely sounds better to me. This is my only disappointment so far.

The C7 sounds better on startup to me, but it's so quiet after that. No way I'll swap exhausts now so I guess I'll live with it.

I had Corsa Extremes and Corsa X-pipe put on at the Museum Bash in April, it is pretty loud when I first start it in the morning just like with the NPP's, but it quits down after it runs a couple of minutes and then its not really loud till you hammer on it and then it sounds pretty nasty. I have talked to my neighbors and it doesn't bother them at all. Was really surprised, it drones less than stock NPP's did when valve's were open while cruising.

The LT1 in general is a different animal than the LSx generation. Even if you throw a cam, headers and exhaust at it, you will be surprised how much more tame it sounds than an equally modded LSx. VVT and DI will do that to a car.

I have both sitting in the garage right now and the C6 NPP's do sound better, definitely louder, that's why I had Corsa's put on my C7, couldn't let the wife's car sound better than mine. LOL

I had NPP on my 13 Grand Sport. I also have NPP in my 16 Z51. I think the difference in sound is quite close but not exact. You tell me;

C6 NPP valves open (M2W, in wild mode)

C7 NPP valves open (fuse pulled)

C7 NPP valves open (fuse pulled)

Here are two videos that I made of my cars. Done with different cameras so you will need to turn up the volume for the second one. The engines just sound completely different.

Also added a third clip of the BB Fusions which once again changes the tone.

NPP on my '10 completely stock.

NPP on my '15 after mods.

Fusions on my '15 after mods.

I'm curious if your C7 with NPP sounded better or the same after you pulled the fuse. Also, I know this has been covered in other threads, but, what fuse # did you pull?

Have a 2016 C 7 LT1. Ordered a set of Cat Back Borla exhaust from Maryland Speed. Very nice people to deal with... Had them installed at the local muffler shop in town; they did an excellant job installing the exhaust. After two days, my foot and shifter arm got the itch to lay down on it. Five minutes later, I had a check engine light. The next day I took the vehicle to the Dealer in Dearborn, Michigan. Very nice folks, the service tech telephone me and advised that a bulleton was sent out by GM stating that when you if you get down on your vehicle while in STEALTH mode, you may get check engine light. The vehicle had two codes which were reset, also had a complaint about the mode sticking. After keeping the vehicle for two days, they couldn't get the mode to stick. Thats what I was told today. Will get up early to pick my joy toy up..
