Nav/Infotainment upgrade for 2014's
Just got back from visiting my bud who got a super deal on a 16 Z51. Going over the infotainment display and got green with envy. Improvements on the 16 puts mine in the junior league. I know this probably qualifies for the Alpo award, but are there any after-market upgrades or is GM interested in making $$ by developing an OEM upgrade for the faithful 14 owners?

Yes, for $999 you can upgrade your system. Add $400 for CarPlay/Android Auto.

I don't know about a 2014 Nav as I have a 2016, however it was my understanding that the differences between 2014 and 2016 are not much. I mean vettes have the Nav software for 2.0. i hear there's a 3.0 but AFAICT that isn't available for vettes.
However, the 2016's have different hardware and thus are able to do CarPlay and Android Auto. However this is not the same as MyLink. You have MyLink and CarPlay/Android Auto (depending upon the phone attached). If, by better navigation, you mean MyLink I'd say 1) it's way not worth $1300 and 2) it probably is not much different that your current MyLink. If you're going for CarPlay/Android Auto, again my experience is only with Android Auto. I like it, but it could be better. I never use MyLink anymore ('cept to check the weather or to turn on the front camera or change Radio settings - but not for Nav). Not sure if even that is worth $1300 but I understand a large portion of that is for the hardware upgrade itself.

Is the upgrade just the Nav, or the entire infotainment system?

I suggest you call digital dash solutions and talk to them. I bought the Nav unit for my '14 from them and they explained the differences between the years. For example, if you buy a Nav unit for a '16 you won't have the display showing which direction you're heading as well as a couple of other things. I bought a '15 unit and I now have a PDR icon on my screen which is obviously useless so I moved it to the second page where you don't see it. Also, the latter years let you display the Nav in the HUD but not so for '14's. Other than these small 'bugs' the unit works pretty good.
That being said I'd probably suggest getting a Navtool module where you can mirror the phone. This way you can use Waze, Google Maps, etc which is more accurate and it would be much cheaper.

So you are saying the later hardware is not 100% compatible in a 2014? Or are the things that don't work features that were removed ??

I only opted for the 2015 Nav module because I had no use for the Carplay and such, also didn't feel like dropping $1300. On my unit I now have the PDR icon which is useless since you can't add it to the '14's. The '16 modules came with more goodies but again they're probably of no use if installing the unit on a '14. That's why I suggest calling Digital Dash Solutions to get all the facts before you buy.

Of course any aftermarket or phone Nav is better still, but I don't want anything suction cupped to my windshield with a dangling wire, or attached to the grab-bar or rear-view mirror, or stuck in the cup-holder. I like the big integrated screen and HUD integration. I also like to keep my Vette's interior clean and clear.
Everybody will have different preferences and priorities for spending their money. I am just happy to have a 2016 Nav in my 2014 Vette and was willing to pay for it. Cheaper than buying a whole new car!

Did yours come with the GPS antenna or the splitter to use the OnStar antenna. Having mine installed by the dealer on Monday, hopefully they will know how to use the splitter, bringing the instructions for them with me. Figure that having the GPS antenna might be better as it would be like original forbthem

I now have 2016 nav on my 2014 vehicle. Very different. Great improvement. I also have Apple CarPlay which, of course, I didn't have before. I like it. Much easier to make phone calls. Alternative music and Nav interfaces.
