The stingray should of had 500hp, The z06 should have had 700hp and the zr1 should have over 800hp, GM needs to listen to the young people before they loose more customers, if they want to be top dog they need to put everyone to sleep and build a hp monster that nothing will catch.

EXACTLY.
to have a total redesign run for only 4-5 years would of increased the C7 initial price dramatically.
In modern times, it takes about 7-8 years (between major redesigns) to make a worthwhile profit on all the work given on a new (or major redesigned) vehicle.
This is not a reply to the subject of there possibly being a ZR1 model introduced, but instead directed to th ethought that the C7 will cease production before 2020.

lol you guys think they just come up with this stuff on the fly? They have contracts with suppliers, forecasting, etc.
They aren't just going to ditch the C7 because someone came up with the idea of going mid engine. C7 will be around longer than 2018. I'd guess at least 2020.

Man, the Grand Sport was obvious as soon as they announced the Z06 with a near 80k starting price.
My humble opinion on the Subject:
You will see the Corvette name expand to multiple models. This has been discussed multiple time over the past decade, and it looks like it is happening.
My prediction:
MY 2017 will remain as is; minor cooling fixes for the LT4 borrowed from the ZL1 camaro.
MY 2018, C7 ZR1 @750ish hp, Likely a DOHC 32 valve V8, perhaps called the LT5; based on GM's LGW V6 (direct injection, VVTI, start stop, cyclinder de-activation); No real updates to stingray, Grand Sport, or Z06. Last year of C7 stingray.
MY 2019, "Base" C8 will release, Mid-engine, LT2 V8 powered; I think it is highly likely that there also be a lower cost TT V6 @480hp for the base C8 to keep the base price closer to @60k; with the V8 base price @75k.
I think it is likely that C7 will likely be sold along side C8 (if Bowling Green has capacity), but only in Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1 trims (models, whatever) *OR* Only the Base C7 will remain, but with DOHC TT V6 rated at @470hp, but I think this is highly unlikely.
MY 2020, New C8 Z06 release, LT5 powered, C7 Z06 and ZR1 dropped. C7 Grand Sport might get one last year with LT2 power, to empty the parts bins, but unlikely.
MY 2021, C8 Base and C8 Z06- Minor updates
MY 2022, C8 TT V6 Hybrid AWD released.
MY 2023, C8 Base, Z06, Hybrid
MY 2024, C8 ZR1

What's to say this mid engined secret Supercar is even a Chevrolet, let alone a Corvette? I think it could easily go to Cadillac, who also competes on a worldwide scale these days. The Corvette could easily continue as a front engined rear drive platform, with higher powered models like the ZR1 on thr horizon. The C7 is just finishing up it's 3rd year of production. If you think it is going away in a year, or even 2 or 3 years I think you're sadly mistaken.

I think it's funny that people see the spy shots, think it's really happening (probably true) so the model year number the journalist randomly picked out of a hat is correct (probably not true)

The price won't drop much unless the ZR1 is the same price range (IE: C7Z06 and 1-2 year old C6ZR1).

So, the production run for the C7 would be 5 years, if Car and Driver is to be believed? That doesn't jive with historical Corvette production life cycles. C6, 9 years. C5, 8 years. C4, 13 years. I don't think they get rid of the C7 that quickly.
Gotta agree with Vetteman Jack on this one...

Doubt it. It's still a near 700hp car with crazy suspension, chassis and brakes and a 7spd manual with a removable top and looks to kill. It's only going to drop in price so much.

The only thing left coming in this generation is the "Super Z06" you've seen running around (for MY 2018). It will be shown in Detroit, and might carry the ZR1 badge (especially if the mid-engine car gets a unique name).
The "Super Z06" has a larger pulley on it, so they can up the pressure on the supercharger. It's still OHV as OHC WILL NOT PACKAGE in a front engine Corvette. I'm guessing something to beat the 707 HP in the Hellcat.
The OHC engine (likely twin turbo), or a flat plane crank could be in the Mid-engine car no one really knows. The powertrain is the biggest mystery.
The C8 is a 2021. The last 2 model years 2019 and 2020 will be paint and option changes, as they move most people to working on C8 development.
