Default That Guy....

I just couldn't wait to get home to post this . . . Today I met "that guy", the corvette owner that looks down on people that don't have a corvette. The one that talks about everyone being slow and them being fast. The one that talks about going 110 on a regular basis, the one that talks about 460HP 8speed paddle shift, blah blah blah . .

So, here is the deal . . I going into a store and I see a guy pull up in a z51 yellow coupe, so he got out and headed towards me as I was waiting for the store to open so I said, nice vette. He responded, yes it is with 460HP 8spd paddle shift. I responded, that is nice (at that point I didn't mentioned i was a vette owner and this was my 3rd vette), so he began to talk about speed, how fast he goes, how slow everyone is, blah blah blah . . .

As he continued to put other cars down and talk about the vette the more and more i became irritated, so I really wanted to let him have it but, when you meet "that guy" i'm not sure he will understand if you say something to him so I just politely said take care and went into the store.

The moral of the story is I finally understand when I tell people I own a vette (non-vette folks) they say I hope you are not one of those guys . . I guess that is what they are talking about . . .

FWIW, if I met you in a bar, and you told me that story , you would be "that guy"

Of the large majority of people I've met like that, their douchiness isn't limited to the particular car they drive. They are generally douches about everything.

Was this somewhere near Tacoma, WA?

A few years back, I met "That Guy" at the Waterfront in his shiny black C6 Coupe. A true f'ing arrogant ***** douchebag in every sense. And all I did was try and say hello in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler (Sahara) since my Corvette was back home in AZ. The only difference between your encounter and mine is, I told the guy what an a**hole he was.

So, if "That Guy" is on here reading this.....you're STILL a true f'ing arrogant ***** douchebag.

I got a kick out of this post. My wife and I were at the store when this gal came up to my wife and asked her if she had bought a new car yet? My wife had previously mentioned to her a few month ago we were in the market for a car. She asked my wife what we finally ended up with. My wife said "a chevy". End of conversation and away we went.

I have met many "That Guy's" in my life, though not a single one owned a Corvette. In fact most Corvette owners I have run into seem to be true car lovers (cars in general not one brand or model), just like I am. I marvel at how many people drink the kool aid (like Ferrari owners who think their cars have soul LOL I always get a kick out of that one), and suddenly no other car is worthy.

Oh that guy, every car marque has those guys. I thought you were talking about the obese middle-aged balding man in elastic waist sweat pants, old running shoes with gold chains around his neck and wrist , and a diamond pinky ring, trying to get out of his shiny corvette.

My 8 year old grandson wants to know what f'ing means. Please give us a detailed explanation.

There are people like the OP described are not confined to being Corvette owner's. I took my 2012 GT 500 to a car show a few years ago. I was parked next to a very expensive Shelby A/C Cobra. I went to introduce myself to my "neighbor" and started by saying "nice car." He looked at me, looked at my car and turned around and walked away without saying a word.

Agree 100% even just owning a modded civic people can be arrogant, same way a humble man can own a Ferrari. It all comes down to the person.

Definitely nobody wants to meet "those guys"

A bit over the top with his banter but have met more than a few owners of different cars that are like this when you comment or ask about their car.
Sometimes I find it amusing and never really thought much about it most of the time.
No biggie.
I have met worse at some all Corvette car shows.

A local Corvette club had a car show a couple of weeks after I bought my first Corvette, a c6 z06. I took my 4-yr. old son with me to have some fun. I was also interested in learning about the club.

When we found the c6 z06's, I attempted to introduce myself and have a conversation with the owners, but got no response. It was pretty weird, honestly.

Didn't really bother me, but I lost interest in the club pretty quickly. I should know better, as I'm a non-participating member of an owners club for a specific type of airplane that has a bunch of members who are "socially challenged" (to make it appropriate for the 8-yr. olds reading this). . I'm kind of used to nice toys having "interesting" owners.

People like that exist in all walks of life. Some people in my home city judge you by where you live...

I find it very hard to attend cars and coffee etc for this very reason. Too much douchiness and testosterone in the air.

I'm not "that guy" either. If I do meet that guy I usually just act like I'm listening or walk away. Life is too short for adults acting like they are 5yrs old.

Not to start a flame war but having been on this forum since 2000 there are plenty of "those guys" here. : ) Luckily the positive aspects available here definitely out way the BS.

I think you should chill. Corvette owners like to talk about their cars. Obviously they are car enthusiasts if they're dropping that much money on a car. And everybody complains about slow drivers. Unless there was some serious body language or perhaps tonal expressions we're not getting in print he didn't seem like "that guy" to me - he just seemed like a guy into cars and proud of his purchase.
