I am a fool of the worse sort - I bought a Z06. And to show y'all just how foolish I am, I am glad I did!

We're all different and it is nice that we have all these options so we can best tailor our purchase of these fine cars to our particular needs.

wow. . .it's amazing to me how many really un-smart responses there are on here. . .and how easily a thread like this turns into a pissing match and a chance for people to just express their own justifications for the options they chose on their own cars. . .but to get back to the very simple question the OP asked:

we all agree that while some of you bought your Z51 back in the day when you needed to get the whole package to get the wheels and spoiler etc. . .and the mag ride. . .but today, as it stands you can order a BASE car with a zf1 appearance package that looks essentially EXACTLY the same as a z51 and you can add the mag ride too if you think that's an important option. . .so the OP asks, considering these things, is there an ADVANTAGE to getting the z51 for a non-tracked car??? so for normal non track driving, does a dry sump, an E diff and slightly bigger brakes (I think that's it) amount to any perceptible improvement?? and it doesn't make a lick of difference if the cost is 1 dollar or 1 million dollars. . .sorry to continue the thread, but there haven't been many posts on here which actually answer the question asked. . .

when I go to sell mine, I'm going to slap a Z51 badge on the side. That will negate any difference in resale value. =)

Mag ride comes with the ZF1 stuff. ZF1 no longer exists unfortunately. After reading the responses that include published GM numbers, I think the real difference is you pay an extra $5k to tell people you car can do 0-60 in 3.7 vs 4.0. Of course the reality is the differences in these published acceleration numbers don't make sense when you really think about em.

Drove the heck out of both a base and a z51 before I bought a z51...I guess you could say the base looks like a Corvette.....thats about it, sorry. The E diff makes all the difference in the world on takeoff and corner exit. The suspension tune is night and day between the 2 cars. I will make a prediction, the price difference between the used base and the used z51 is going to be a lot...The base is going to be the poser's Vette. I know that is going to make a bunch of people unhappy but when you buy a de-tuned car(suspension and brakes) , thats what you get.

Thats why i feel the Z51 should be the base vette. the base is a detuned suspension and brakes.

the idea of that would make me pissed. Its like the base is not made to the same standard performance car. I am not saying you need a total track car. But having a proper suspension, brakes, and diff are key parts of a performance car. the Z51 is a completed corvette.

Proud poser here.

Sounds like the base model is complete junk.

Knew I should have bought a Honda minivan. 😀

At least Chevy didn't do like Ford did with the 6 cylinder Mustangs. For a few bucks yours could look like a Shelby Cobra, too.

And I'll predict the difference in resale after 5 years is less than half of what the cost of the Z51 package is now....

Or finds the Z51 package unnecessary for weekend cruising, more expensive in the long run and possibly have items that make the car wear more quickly because it's an RV and pass over it for a base model

2 sides to every coin my friend.

But - I will be sure to title the for sale ad: 2016 C7 FOR POSERS FOR SALE !!
