Next gen C8 to weight just over 4,000 lbs

All the new safety standards and tech has a lot to do with weight. The stuff that makes cars safer also makes it heavier. Id rather have a few pounds of weight due to airbags than not to have them.

Is it possible that I might include an optional a symmetrical awd system? Just throwing something out there.
Don't see why they would make it heavier to obtain the mid engine rwd concept.
If that's the case, it would definitely be in the super car category competing against considerably more expensive cars

The C7 is bloated?
This is from another post:
These are official weights from GM... (Not sure if this includes full tank of gas, etc.)
'84-'85: 3192 lbs
'86-'89: 3229 lbs
'89: 3225 lbs.
'90-'91: 3255
'92: 3325
'93-'96: 3335
'90-'92 ZR1: 3479 lbs
'93-'95 ZR1: 3512 lbs
'87-'91 Callaway: 3440 lbs.
And the C7 weight is around 3300 lbs. Less than it was 20 years ago.

Man, you just gotta love the internet....
The OP posts this nugget of wisdom, with absolutely NO backup or knowledge, and, mark my words, 3 months from now, there will be posts asking: "Did you hear that the C8 is going to weigh over 4,000 pounds?"
Some people (like the OP) need to get a life or a job or both.
I especially love the "I hate to see the C7 all bloated" line. Wow. This is November 2015, the C7 came out in fall 2013 and this guy (the OP) just came up with this? Hopefully we can get his thoughts on the taillights also.

There can very easily be more than 90 pounds variation just from one car to another of the same year based on the options on each car. And Chevy has achieved this remarkable lack of weight gain while steadily improving performance along the way. That sounds pretty good to me.

No, you have to weigh the car after Buford leaves Carl's Jr with the double beef, double cheese, hot dog, fries, chicken cutlet and bacon super-combo sandwich (and a complimentary salad), and gets in the car.

If we are using GM's published numbers, a 2016 C7 is 3298 or 90 pounds different than what you have for the C6. That just is not significant. In reality, the weight of a Corvette has fluctuated some up and down over the years, but the weight has been remarkably unchanged since 1984.

Yes the C7 has a stiffer frame but the aluminum frame C6 Z06 weighs 37 pounds less than the aluminum frame in the C7 Z06. Not long after the C6 Z06 was released, people were asking about what it would take to make it a targa out of the C6 Z06. GM said they estimated it would take an additional 44 pounds of bracing etc to stiffen the C6 Z06 frame so it could be a targa. In the end the C7's aluminum frame only saved 7 pounds over a C6 Z06 frame that would be stiffer in order for the car to be run topless.
Then the 3130 pound Z06, plus that extra 44 pounds, would still be 350 pounds lighter than the C7 Z06. 3524 -3174 = 350 pounds savings.
350 pounds is a lot of weight. Then if you consider that the C6 Z06 did not have a carbon fiber hood or roof as standard equipment, or that the C6 Z06 didn't have the lighter SMC body panels or the lighter hollow cast suspension control arms, it makes the weight gain of the C7 even more dramatic.

Doesn't the Porsche 918 weigh between 3800 and 3900 even with a high content of CF and other exotic materials? But it is a hybrid and we know GM would NEVER make a Corvette hybrid. Right?

I seriously doubt that it will be anywhere near 4000 pounds. UNLESS it is full Electric powered and the battery tech doesn't get lighter with more density (which it should).
They will probably push the Carbon Fiber (structural) along with body panels as it gets cheaper for non-cosmetic painted grade carbon.
