2014 Review concerns
Hi,
I'd like to trade my 5k mile 2011 for a 2014 Conv/auto. There are some great deals on some barely used 2014s.
However, I started reading reviews of the 2014 and was surprised to continually see the same chronic issues with this year over and over:
BTW, these reviews were submitted by owners and they are:
torque tube and heat related issues
bearings
a/c not getting cool right away
nav and other electronics either hard to understand or querky to use
etc etc
So I'm wondering if I should steer clear of the 2014s and wait until the used 2015s start showing up.
Any thoughts by owners here?
Thanks

My 14 is fine, zero problems. It was built pretty late in the production year though (08/14) and I think the problems were already identified and corrected.

I have a 15 with none of the aforementioned problems, only problem has been the creaking roof and GM has a TSB out to correct the problem. The 14 and 15 (mileage under 36K) should be under warranty. Pick which one is the better deal.

I have a 14 I bought with 10k on it in August. Saved probably 20 grand. Only issues I've had are the seat belt latch getting stuck.Got a new one under warranty.Seat memory acting up.Taken care of. The touch screen was getting whacky when cold but it's working ok now. I've read about roof creaking issues and that's been around since 05.Overall,no real concerns regarding the 1st year 14. I also bought an 05 c6 when it cam out,but a late production one.Few issues with that one too. I say go get one and start enjoying. Loved my c6's,hated the c7 upon release..but I love it now and can't stop driving it! I think I might have a case of permagrin coupled with permadrive...

All we can do is to speak from personal experience. Here is mine.
Purchased car # 24,302 that was built on May 5, 2014, took delivery on May 25th in Michigan.
Currently have 12,658 miles, other than oil changes I have had no need to visit the Dealer for any of the issues you mentioned.
IMO, the 2014's are just as just as good as any of the later cars and at this date come at a deep discount... Buy a car, add an extended warranty of choice and join other Corvette owners enjoying life...

First of all I think you have to keep in mind that complainers will always greatly outnumber those who are satisfied or happy. They often don't speak up.
I think torque tube issues are rare.
Heat issues usually come from those tracking the car NOT from routine driving. Many forum members, me included, have run in temps well above 100 in heavy traffic w/o any issues. This is a non issue.
Bearings? What bearings? Another rare issue.
A/C, again, like heat, a non issue, most who complain are not using the A/C properly. Mine and most others will chill you right out at 100+ temps, particularly with a high quality tint film.
If you like the 2014 go ahead using the same precautions you would with any high performance used car. Few hot cars are driven on Sunday only to church by old ladies. Don

Thank you for the replies.
Might I ask what you think a 2014 Conv/auto trans 1Lt with under 5K miles should be going for at a dealer?
I was reading some forum members opinions on pre-owned 2014/2015s and there doesn't seem to be a unified consensus on where 14/15 values are going to be or are heading to be.

You can check Kelly Blue Book and the Cars.com web site to get some idea about used Corvette prices. There are a lot of factors that can influence final price. Ask to see a car fax and dealer service history from the VIN as well. 2014 and 2015 carry the 100K drive train warranty which is reduced for 2016. In looking at a used Corvette particularly from a dealer I would lean toward a GM Certified car. That means the car has been checked out by GM and it is what they say it is. May cost some more but for piece of mind and extra warranty I favor that standard when buying an unknown high performance car. Now that 2016's are out you might be able to pick up a new 2015 at a nice discount. Good luck.

How would I decode the vin regarding it's production date?

I have a mid year 2014 and other than a recall (fuel filler neck) and a bad batch of delaminating leather on the seat backs (warranty replaced), no problems.

I have a later 2014 Convertible 2LT Z51 now with 6k miles. I have had zero issues with the car. I have the A6 trans and no problems, a/c works great.

I also have a trouble free 2014 but there are definitely others with issues. Seems like ditto for the 2015's. But no shortage of used 2015's out there so if you're concerned why not get the newer car with more remaining factory warranty?
