GM Release C7 Stingray Track Spec Ed at SEMA
For those intrested,
I'm at Spring Mountain this week, the instructors gave heads-up
Just passing on the info: so be nice, not every detail is finalized
This will be a Stingray Z51 with Z06 steel brakes, suspension pieces, areo like the Z06,
Idea is to reignight the "Corvette Challange" done many years ago, so, yes this will be for a "spec" race series.
Michlien is engineering a specific race slick for the car.
The race series will be held at Spring Mountain only for 2016
I'll try and learn more tomorrow.

Sounds like a C7 "Grand Sport" to me.... I'd guess this isn't going to be street legal though and if they are actually going to sell it to teams to compete or if it is a sponsored thing. If they are selling it how much...
Porsche just announced a Cayman GT4 track edition, not street legal complete with roll cage, etc... starting price $165K or so.

Considering the uproar and shier disgust of them painting up a C7-R waxer edition, I'm not holding my breath.
If Chevy comes out with a GT3 spec race car I would be amazed.

While at Circuit of the Americas a little while back for the Tudor races, I had the chance to talk to Ron Fellows at the Corvette Corral tent. I asked him a theoretical question of basically if I were interested in buying a C7 to use as a track day car, which would he recommend: a Stingray with Z51 or a Z06? His response was wait until after SEMA as there was going to be a big announcement that would change the answer to the question. I'm guessing this announcement is what he was referring to.

I ll buy one if it is priced as a normal car and has competent brakes, oil coolers, trans coolers, oil pickups, radiator, etc., such that it can be faced in the summer without blowing up, and had nannies that can be completely turned off, including the vses in the abs- you know, like the vette should have been made I t he first place
