Dealer Inventory vs. Special Order
Is there a thread about the number of C7's that are produced per customer ordered vs. dealer inventory. Quite a # of members of the Forum ordered their C7. This is my 2nd ordered, the previous 3 were from dealer inventory. Loved getting the car in a day vs. 6 - 9 weeks. How many of you ordered your C7.

I ordered my '15 two months before '15 production actually began. I wanted a '15 (and not a '14) so it made sense to order rather than wait for there to be '15s in dealer stock. My car ended up being built during the second week of production so ordering didn't really add to my wait time.

Ordered mine in March 2015 through Kerbeck. Took 10 weeks to arrive, but glad I waited and got exactly what I wanted instead of one from the lot. Also did the Buyers Tour at the factory, so I witnessed the build. Great experience!

Wanted a 3LT manual convertible which is rare to be in inventory so I ordered.

I ordered my 2015 SG because of the interior color. Dealer was willing to give me a discount on a 2015 SG they ordered for themselves but the car had a black interior. Sorry, black interior is nice but is too hot for me.

I special ordered mine because I wanted exactly what I wanted.
I had some 'must haves' for the car. Laguna blue, both carbon flash packages, Z51 1LT package, auto, PDR recorder, and black Z51 rims. I didn't seem to find the complete package like this. Some had 2LT, very few Laguna Blue cars. I found a red one almost exactly what I wanted, but I kept telling myself it's just a 2 month wait. It seems most of the cars on the lot were 2LT or 3LT.
Also, I wasn't in any great hurry to have the car delivered. I'm 60 years old, so 2 months is just a tick of the clock.
If you want to spend your $60,000 or more on a car, then you should want it built exactly like you want it.

Now I have to admit that after the seventh week I was getting anxious about receiving the car, and when the car was trucked to Houston, I had onstar activated to I could see where the car was on a daily basis. Joe @ Classic Chevy Sugarland kept me updated with a weekly email, which also made the wait easier.

Not bad at all, from ordering the car on 11/4/14 to being the garage queen she will be on 12/23/14. I really didn't think I would receive the car in 7 weeks.

I order all my cars because I want them exactly how I want them, not just close. Once I have determined how I want it configured, every detail of the build is a deal killer. Dealers have tried to locate my precise configuration within a 500 mile radius and always come up empty.

When buying for wife or kids....close is good enough. :-)

I am shocked to hear some folks tell us a dealer refused to custom order a car for them because he wanted to see in stock only....bizarre!
Let us know if we may assist, Thank-you

All depends
In my case "what I really wanted" was more than I could afford. What I wanted was a loaded Z51 3LT but what I could afford was a 1LT Z51 with no other options. When I ordered my C5 in the summer of 2000 (2001 model) I was making that compromise on what I wanted vs what I could afford. So in my situation, special ordering would have actually got me less.
That's why I ended up going with a used 2014 which I could get cheaper than a '15 (which is what I could have ordered at the time). Our local dealer had two sitting in the showroom. Both were Lime Rock Green, Brownstone interior 3Lt Z51 coupes. I get to pick performance/techical options while my wife gets to pick colors. And she fell in love with the LRG/Brownstone combination...which was not available on '15's. Combine that with a reasonable deal below book retail...and there you have it.
Just saying, yes, get what you want. But depending on just what it is you want, there may be other ways to get there.

i ordered my '15 from a local dealer that took exactly 4 months from order to delivery. It was an agonizing 4 months, from sept 1st to dec 27th delivery. I can tell you one thing. It was the best agonizing 4 months of my life!!! The excitement building up over those first few weeks was incredible. I was checking GM's website tracker (when it was still up) several times a day, using the chat feature once a week as well. Then when i saw the online tracker move to "queued for production", it was the most unbelievable feeling ever!!! I didn't think it was going to change for another few weeks so it was a shock!!! (yes, even though i was checking a million times, i didn't think it was going to be for a while longer...) Ordering is the best experience, right behind museum delivery and plant tour (which maybe i can afford to do on the C9 or 10 when i'm older... lol)

When we decided to get a C7, it was January. Don't drive in the winter here. So I could wait easily. Ordered in Feb, took delivery May 15.
We did the build your own on the Chevy website and wanted painted vents (match to car color). You probably will never see one on a dealer lot. Also wanted chrome wheels, all dealer have are black
Ordering cars were routinely done way back when. You could actually pick you engine size. Did you want a 4-barrell with that or tri-power setup or maybe fuel injection.
Now not really too many choices apart from colors/trim level. I understand why, but am happy to get exactly what I want.
