Default Beware: Pointy elbows

The attached photo shows the result of my wife resting her arm on *gasp* the center console/armrest during a single road trip. Pretty sad that the foam is defeated so easily. I'll be requesting a new lid from my dealer.

Note that the photo was taken today, 4 days after the trip, so the foam is not going to spring back.

EDIT: 7/10/15

Well, I have a VERY interesting update for you all.

As a reminder, my center console top showed multiple dimples after one trip. They were caused by my wife resting her elbow there as she read. As of this morning, one week later, the dimples were unchanged.

This afternoon I met a friend for lunch. Long story short as the car sat in the boiling FL sun for 1.5hrs the dimples vanished. I mean 100% GONE! This after being unchanged for a week. My car rarely sits in the sun so I guess all it took was a super-heated cabin.

So, a previous poster who used an iron to take out his dimple was spot-on. I still don't think this should happen, but it seems some time outdoors, or artificial hear, can cure the issue.

Get a wife with round elbows? Might be easier on the car....... :-)

Or do like I do and place a small towel on the center console - elbows will not leave indentations that way.

Hopefully a C7 center armrest console cushion is in the works from some vender. A new lid runs $250.

LOVE the car, but can't believe they put a padding in there with zero spring.

Wow!

I wonder what has changed? My '14 has no noticeable indentation after 30,000 miles. It's just now starting to show where my elbow normally sits on the microfiber suede surface and needs to have the nap roughed up, but no divot, whatsoever.

Interesting. Mine is a '15. My divots occurred after a 2.5hr drive...must have "improved" padding on the '15s.

I have no reported problems with my center console having indentations from elbows.

I really wonder if GM will authorize a replacement for those owners and consoles in the photos above. Looks like normal wear and tear.

Be sure to let us know how your claim pans out.

That looks more like a defect than wear and tear. If you can't rest your arm on the armrest without causing permanent indentations, then I would say that's a defect.

We will find out once the C7 owners above go to the dealer to place a claim against the GM warranty.

Hopefully they update their experience at the dealer and what happened.

I'll let you know. I'll need to go in for an oil change in the next week or two so I'll address it then.

I just noticed the foam padding on my drivers door arm rest is shot from be resting my elbow on it. Now it's uncomfortable. Wonder if GM will replace it?

I was just looking at mine a little while ago while I wiped an oil smear off from it. Still nice and smooth with no indentations!

I have a 14' with 32K on it, and yes mine is indented, and much worse than the OP. I have indentations on the center, as well as both door armrests. I need to visit my dealer before I roll 36K factory warranty as I don't think these items would be covered under my GMPP extended warranty..

I had this identical problem and was able to remove the indents, 100%.

Remove lid and disassemble as much as possible. I did not separate the leather from the base, it is glued. Then i covered with a damp cloth and applied heat with the iron. Took a while. Just about the time i figured i was going to burn the leather, boom, the indents were gone in the leather and the foam. It was magic. Problem is completely gone.

If GM will replace the center lid or door arms, won't you get the same crapulant foam and this will just repeat?

Like the idea of heat fixing it, but won't they just return?
