C7 Jake or anyone else-splitter question
What is a "GM disposable splitter" that you mentioned in a recent post? You said $105 delivered. How does it attach and was it ordered from a GM dealer? Thanks.

"Disposable" in this case just means that it is made of molded plastic, so if damaged it is cheap to replace (as compared to carbon fiber ones)
The GM stage 1 splitter attaches with the factory bumper cover screws on the rear edge, but you need to drill extra holes for rivets or screws on the leading edge...
Some have used plastic push in rivets, but I chose to use the same bumper cover screws that GM uses, and u-nuts for the back. I did have to use plastic rivets on the two center holes since I could not reach inside the bumper to attach the u-nut there.. The kit comes with metal rivets, that would have to be drilled out if you ever need to remove the splitter.

Sometimes a post in a thread doesn't get followed up by the person you want to contact. Consequently, the question might not get answered. And the person I wanted to contact apparently doesn't allow people to PM him. So I just put up a new post. I got exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks guys.

I thought the rivets were easy to use but I now think you should mount it in such a way to easily remove:
GF hit retread with my car on the way home from the lake Sunday evening. Probably a 15 lb chunk at 73 mph. That will wake you up. Splitter took most of the hit. Thank you $105 splitter. The splitter didn't actually break, but was scuffed up a bit and the impact twisted it enough to leave significant stress marks in it. It's off the car getting "plasti-dipped" right now. Actually Duplicolor's version of the rubberized removable coating. Gotta add another coat tomorrow morning, but it just might look cooler than stock unpainted. A little darker. I never have good luck with spray paint so I'm quite impressed at how this Duplicolor stuff looks after it dries. Bubbles and runs (within reason) totally disappear once the stuff dries. No talent required.

I too agree with picking up an extra splitter. They aren't very expensive so if you buy one, you would do yourself a favor and buy a spare. It's only a matter of WHEN you hit something, not a matter of IF you hit something.

I installed my OEM splitter a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't difficult and probably would have taken less than 30 minutes to install if I had used a jack or ramp and if I had the proper tools. Like C7 Jake, I left mine unpainted. I used the OEM screws on the car, but chose to use the supplied rivets for the other holes. The supplied rivets required me to drill ten 3/16" holes to install. I believe the plastic "scrivets" required a slightly larger hole. Either way...you will love the look of it. And for $105...you can't go wrong.

Do you leave the original air dams on when installing the splitter? I have a Z51 so it has the two side dams and is open in the middle. If they are removed, how would that affect air flow which the dams were put there to control in the first place.

Another question I have is how exactly does the metal rivets work? They don't look like they expand like the plastic ones do, or does it?
Lastly, my concern has to do with the bottom part being hollow. Does it create air turbulence? is it aerodynamically designed or just for cosmetic? I mean it is going to be vibrating at freeway speed? I see all these Honda Civics with aero parts that looks cool when they're parked but flapping around on the freeway. I hope this doesn't do that.

So without a jack or ramp, were u able to use a power drill? I got mine few days ago, but I haven't installed it yet. I need to go buy the pop rivet gun.

The GM splitter is not some JC Whitney add on part, it's the actual splitter that goes on the Z06 unless you are getting the Z07 Package with a different splitter, rest assured if installed properly you will have no issues as it was designed by GM to be on the Stingray...

When I installed mine, I was going to use those plastic body panel holders instead of rivets as I had a box of them from my old C6. That way it would be easier to remove when the splitter needed to be replaced. But after I mounted the splitter just with the bolts, it seemed that it was on very securely and I could not make it flex so I did not drill and use either the rivets or the plastic body panel holders. I am sure GM wants the thing riveted on for some reason though and perhaps later I will find out why! The other thing is I painted mine Carbon Flash with a rattle can of adhesion promoter primer and clear coat and I should have sanded it completely smooth first as it would have looked better completely smooth. Not recommended this procedure, just posting my mistakes.

I took them off because I didn't like the scraping sound they made when they made contact with the road and they were so low they were always making contact.
