I have the M7. It starts in whatever mode I shut it off, except Track. If you shut it off in Track mode, the it starts in Tour Mode. That is by design per the OM.

I too have the MN7, but I don't think the Auto works any differently with regards to what driver mode it starts in. AMF operation between MN7 and Autos is very different.

Shouldn't have to be that way. Time to do some research in the owner's manual.

So, you shut it off in something other than Eco mode and when you restart it you get the "E" mode display:

My M7 (2014 VIN 11822) starts up in Tour no matter where it was when I shut down. No biggie as I keep in Tour 90% of the time anyway

Mine always starts how i left it. ( never use track) I believe it has to do with the "unlink from drive mode" feature, don't remember the details.

Glen, do you have yours unlinked? I have mine linked and it always starts in the mode I shut it off in (except Track).

Mine is unlinked as well but as I posted, always comes up in Tour

(perhaps version firmware has something to do with it?)

I'm not sure what mine does; I'll have to pay attention.

That reminds me though that I have never seen the car icon on my display. Others have posted it and although I've used all modes it has never appeared. Any ideas on that?

Come to think of it, I've never seen that green bar in the center of the speedo as shown above. What is that?

I have everything linked to drive mode and it seems to start up in whatever I shut it off in, normally Sport.

Default Start up mode

'15 A8 and will remain in tour or sport after restart. Shutting off in any other mode will return to tour after restart.

Also, does the various modes really even matter if you don't have magnetic ride? I know what all the adjustments are in general (from reading the manual) but I just don't see it doing much difference from the seat of your pants unless you have magnetic ride, then it's a substantial difference.

As for what others said, it'll restart in Tour or Sport if I leave them there or go to Tour if I shut down in Track mode.

I'm sure it has to do with what key fob you use at the time. Just like the C6, its prob programmed to the fob somehow....

Maybe theres a setting somewhere that says start in "x" mode, or start in last used mode and you choose the mode to start up in??
