If you have proof of payment (charge card, check, cash receipt, trade-in) equal to the bottom line of the contract, you are done with the dealer. If your proof of payment is less than the contract bottom line, you owe the dealer. See a lawyer if needed.

It sounds like a scam, people get a call from the IRS that says they owe money and if they don't pay right now with a credit card someone will come and arrest them. If they are legit you would get a letter from the dealer,If you’re concerned about the status of an unpaid debt, hang up and call the creditor back yourself at the phone number provided on your loan paperwork; DON'T PAY.
The whole thing sounds crazy.
The IRS receives thousands of reports each year from taxpayers who receive suspicious emails, phone calls, faxes or notices claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service. Many of these scams fraudulently use the Internal Revenue Service name or logo as a lure to make the communication more authentic and enticing. The goal of these scams – known as phishing – is to trick you into revealing personal and financial information. The scammers can then use that information – like your Social Security number, bank account or credit card numbers – to commit identity theft or steal your money.

OP, I am curious why you are holding back so much information. Divulging things such as the dollar amount or the explanation of why there are two documents with two prices does not throw anyone under the bus, you or them. It just helps us to better understand what is going on. Was the purpose for your thread to gauge interest in your saga or to seek advice? If the latter, please divulge what more you CAN without naming names.

Ur Welcome. Like Spinny mentioned, the law can be a bit counterintuitive and odd.
Originally, Statute of Frauds was $250!! Can we say inflation? hahahahaha
When I was scrolling I thought I saw the OP's car might have been brought in or from an out of state. Probably just my imagination but if its one of those, with the car being purchased in a non tax state, but OP lives somewhere else.............that would create a problem for OP.
The OP could divulge the facts to Spinny or me for a small $5 Paypal fee and be covered....
Just Kidding Spinny.

Years ago I bought a car I really shouldn't have. I signed a contract and wrote "dependent on obtaining financing " on the contract and took the car home. The dealer had my credit info and was sure they'd get it financed. They called me later and said I'd have to put more down because they couldn't get anyone to approve the loan as written. I told them I'd have to bring the car back because I didn't have any more cash. They told me to wait, then called me back and said we were good. I got the car for $1000 less than I'd negotiated because they couldn't get the loan approved. This was long before the internet and times were slower then.

The OP clearly stated that he did NOT have the additional money to pay the dealership. If it's $25, the OP's got bigger issues than this forum can help with.
I think consulting an attorney is great advice, car contracts read like stereo instructions.

IMO this post should be closed due to lack of anything significant stated by the OP. Let him open a new one when he can tell the whole story.

Bottom line here is unless your a lawyer and considering the op is not giving any information on his situation nobody here is in a position or qualified to help him unless of course you happen to own a dealership and can give him some advice. I agree this thread should be closed.

Beyond the legal issue........I'm sorry but if you are this strapped for $$$$ saying you just don't have the money perhaps buying an expensive sports car was not the wisest decision????

Definitely one of the more useless threads here in a long time.
