Best Buy guy says the hgher speed is better for music...dont know if that means it doesn't matter for video or what...

IMHO, I would go get the higher MB/s if I were you...
Not to bust your bubble Doc but 35 bucks for a 32 GB Class 10 SD is HIGH. You can get these for 15 bucks.

Amazon.com: Sony 32GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 R40 Memory Card (SF32UY/TQMN): SONY: Electronics Amazon.com: Sony 32GB SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 R40 Memory Card (SF32UY/TQMN): SONY: Electronics

For streaming music, there is no notable difference between a 40 MB/s and 80 MB/s SD. Music streams at far less, even lossless. Heck, HD video streams at less. This number only really matters if you are copying bulk files or doing a ton of I/O to and from the card.

Here is another for 16.19 that is 90 MB/s

Amazon.com: PNY Elite Performance 32GB High Speed SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Up to 90MB/sec Flash Card - P-SDH32U1H-GE: Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: PNY Elite Performance 32GB High Speed SDHC Class 10 UHS-1 Up to 90MB/sec Flash Card - P-SDH32U1H-GE: Computers & Accessories

Just for future reference, "Best Buy guy says.." means less than zero in 90% of the cases. Most have no clue about technology.

Consider my bubble busted... However after a search of the ole interweb, I found that 35 was pretty good for a Sandisk 80 MB/s 32G C10. Either way, happy cruising and see you on the road,

Sorry Doc. No worries. I just have a big problem with Best Buy and technology. There so called GeekSquad has cost me numerous days/hours trying to undo what "the Best Buy guy said" and sold to an unwitting friend or relative.

While some folks feel all warm and fuzzy with a brand name SD card, the truth is there are only a handful of companies worldwide that make these. They sell them to multiple companies. The big companies put all kinds of fancy benchmark tests out there but aside from a few Chinese off-brands, I have yet to encounter an issue with a PNY, Sony, Sandisk, Kingston, etc. I have not found any one better than any other.

I don't know if this happened to anyone else but as crazy as it sounds, I lost all my music when using a micro SD card. One day after starting the car Infotainment didn't recognize the card, I plugged it into my comp and there was nothing. I have no idea how the card was erased but it was so now I just use a small USB in the console, bottom slot. The only blip is that some songs are, for whatever reason, doubled up even though on the computer there's just one file.

Speed matters for video and extremely hi-res photos. Not so much for audio.

I deal with Micro SD cards a lot in my job. Nearly every "smart" phone has one and in addition, we use them as the storage media for USB devices. It does not happen often, but once in a while these cards will just go bad. Sometimes for unknown reasons, they will just "brick" themselves and will not even hold a format. All files that were on the card are unrecoverable. It did not take but once to learn that I need to keep a backup of anything important. The good news is that the cards are relatively cheap and obviously do not take a lot of storage space. If your card "forgot" or "lost" files, it may be a sign the card is failing. I would not trust it - but then again I don't trust any of them.

any SD card will do.

I bought two Class 10 SDs from Newegg for $22, a Sony 32gb for the PDR ($15) and a Kingston 8gb for music ($7). Should be here today.

My 2 cents. That will work but just offers another way it could fail.

That might be the regular price at Costco for that card.

Not necessarily. You have to be careful on Amazon; counterfeit name brand SD cards are widespread. $35 for a real SanDisk 32GB Class 10 80 MB/s is about right. That's about the price at Costco, which is where I buy them.

interesting.....yeah, I am of the mindset that if it's important then back it up. I like to keep hard copies of everything whether it be data or paper, I always have a copy of it somewhere.

Yes the mini sd cards work fine - with an adaptor. They also work well in the USB, again with the appropriate adaptor.

I have never had this issue and I buy a TON of SD cards from Amazon. I only buy from Amazon direct as I have Prime and want 2 days free shipping. Even counterfeit cards typically do not matter when you are talking about streaming music. A class 4 SD with 10 MB/s is plenty fast enough. It's your money but paying anymore than 19.99 for a 32 GB Class 10 SD card is a waste. You do not need an 80 MB/s card. Not even for the video that comes out of the PDR. All these high numbers are a marketing ploy.

And to the other person who asked, I have a 128 GB micro SD in an adapter that works fine as long as it is formatted to FAT32. When using in one of my cars, I put a small piece of clear tape to ensure the micro SD does not slip out of the adapter.
