AND you can do the prom queen wave to everyone, thus dispelling the myth that we are all either stuck up or afraid to wave. or is it we are too young to know the tradition, or is it we are too confused by our cars to pay attention, or is it……

I think it looks fine; it's just not thick enough. My C6 wheel felt better and provided a preferable grip.

IMHO, the (2LT) C7 wheel has a lot more texture than the smooth leather on the C5 wheel; thus grip is much better
consider tweaking the way you hold the wheel.
I;ve been told "modern" drivers ed classes are teaching 8-4 hold (to avoid the airbag) - although I'm not convinced that does much for ability to manuever....
If you are an old school 10-2 driver, move the column a little close to you, then try 9-3, with thumb on the metal ridge between the airbag and edge of the wheel,
or
9.30-2.30, so your thumb/fingers wrap around the fattest part of the wheel, and as a byproduct, provide (easiest) access to the paddles.

Short answer, no. Wheel has perfect grip for me. Now if I were track racing or auto -crossing, the wheel may be a bit slicker than what one would prefer (sine the extra stress could cause sweaty palms), but can be easy solved with driving gloves.
Also the amount of perspiration one's hand produce can make a huge different in grip. 2%-3% of the population have hyperhidrosis which causes excessive sweating in the hands (normal daily activities). Factor in a competitive event and holding on to a steering wheel would be like holding a greased rope.
