If you decide to "Clay bar", "Nanoskin", apply a paint coating, or paint sealent.....it should be done or applied BEFORE having any paint protection film applied.

Once the paint film is applied, then you can apply a "wax" of your choice over the film protectent surface.

Hope this info helps.

This is what I have done also. It is the best and easiest I have found.

I followed Glen E's method on our '12 Durango... on one fender and "my" method (clay, Maguires NTX) on the other. Then let it go in the elements for several weeks. The NTX side held up better.

No offense to Glen, but NTX is an amazing product as well. Easiest "wax" I've ever dealt with.

Meguiar's NXT is the best wax/polish I've ever used! I do like adding rejex to the front though as it keeps the bugs from sticking and seems to minimize paint chips.

My method is not about a single product, I've said that 1000 times. If you like NXT , use it. My product is HOW you go about a detail. Use meguire ultimate polish or even ultimate compound before the NXT with an orbital to see a significant increase in gloss over clay and NXT.

And sorry, blackfirewet diamond or Rejex is far tougher than NXT, peruse the detailing forums for that fact.

Yes, process makes a lot of difference. The NXT is amazing!

Does the existing wax need to be stripped before apply backfire?

Anytime you put anything on a car, the prior should be stripped, a simple dawn wash per my docs should do it.

Before applying any spray paint coating or paint sealent, the wax needs to be removed.

I would suggest using a clay bar first or nanoskin, then use a detailing or surface polish.

Highly recommend it.
200 grit sand paper is pretty rough.

OP's car looks great -- love the blue color.
