One man's experience with selling a Corvette on E-Bay
There most likely are other stories, but this one needs to be added. I sold my "mint condition" 2008 corvette this week. It is a spectacular car in appearance and condition. It sold on E-bay in 6 days when my reserve was met. I received my required $2,000 deposit within minutes of close of auction and the balance in three days via wire to my account at my bank. Car was picked up this morning by a carrier and is headed to Pennsylvania. I am in Tampa, Florida.
It could not have gone smoother. Admittedly, I was very cautious the whole way through. Just happened to be, two honest men making a long distance transaction.
I ended up getting $5,000 more than I was being offered in trade so it was well worthwhile.
This is just a case that shows it can work and can work quite well. I was quite melancholy watching it leave on a truck. It was easily the best and most trouble free car I have ever owned!
So I don't get questions I got $30,000 for the car and the new owner got a bargain.
I pick up my C7 on Saturday so I'll be two days without a corvette. With the extra funds I got, I went ahead and went with one fully equipped. I can only hope it will be as dependable and as much fun as my 2008 was! Arctic While,Z51, Adrenaline 3lt, all the other goodies including competition seats, carbon fiber with color edges, mag ride, etc etc.

Great story!
I had similarly good experience selling my 2007 Z06 on ebay few years back. I got my deposit via Paypal, followed by a cashier check in the mail. It took the buyer two weeks to send a truck for pick-up, and called me to thank for an awesome car once he received it.

I have had good luck with ebay also . I wish I could have sold my C6 but on there but just didn't have enough time . If you know how to navigate the system it's a great tool . Good luck with your new car ....

That is really good to hear. I never would have considered Ebay to sell a car (although I do see them listed). When the time comes, if I cannot get a reasonable allowance for my C7 (for a C8 or Zora or something else of note ), I'll definitely give Ebay a hard look.
My cars are always pristine, no smoke, no race, and low miles. Dealers want to steal them. Sold many to local private parties, but Ebay with the huge audience seems like a excellent option and a win/win for both parties.
Thanks for the enlightenment.

I sold my '70 on eBay a year or so ago. I had put an LS1 and 6-speed in it so I needed a wider audience than your typical Autotrader/Craigslist customer who was looking for a relatively stock car. I got what I wanted out of it and the buyer showed up two days after the auction closed with a ramp truck and a check. Haven't heard from him since but the check cleared so I'm ok with it.

ebay is a great tool for cars you can reach alot more buyers. I recently sold a 32 ford to someone in London. He had it shipped over to him. It was a very easy deal and troublefree experience. I listed my vette there also but was grabbed by someone on this forum for a steal since i was only looking for a little over trade offers.

I BOUGHT my C6 on ebay...that's quite a different set of risks...not everyone is as good to their vettes as we are on the forum.
That being said, I ended up being very happy with the purchase and the price I paid. The car was exactly what I wanted. The seller was actually a car broker in Long Beach California. There were a couple of things not exactly perfect, but it did not change my mind to buy it. The couple of minor issues were easily fixed.
I ended up having a incredibly fun "adventure" for the whole process. I bought it on a Tuesday and flew out to Long Beach that Friday. They picked me up from the airport, I did the deal, got in my new baby and drove to Vegas! I had my best friend fly into Vegas and we spent the weekend having a blast. Then we drove it back home to Kansas City.
One of my memories is sitting in the parking lot of IN-N-OUT eating a double-double while arguing with the customer service gal at XM about the serial number on my radio. This was within 15 minutes of me owning the car. It took over an hour and I though my cell phone was going to die! After that, I hit the Freeway and blasted through the desert toward Vegas.
The whole experience was like something out of a movie or Hunter Thompson book!

Good to hear. I listed my mint condition 2008 here on the C6 for sale section for sale in the Spring. Maybe I will list it on Ebay as well in April if I have no luck here.
Thanks for posting...

Wow... I would not worry about selling on ebay but buying would have me nervous as heck. Glad you sold it. I just traded my 08 4lt white convertible and got $32 for it and add the tax savings I figured it was an OK deal. Also in FL.

Also sold a few cars via eBay and bought one. All good experiences. My last sale was a classic 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible that ended up in a bidding war and got $2000 more than what I thought I would get. Buyer wire transfered funds and got deposit up front. Split transport costs with buyer, $600 from New Mexico to California ($300 each). Buyer bought the car sight unseen, and had about 60 photos on eBay using Photobucket, so it was an easy set up using the Photobucket photo instructions for listings on eBay. There was no extra costs to add the Photobucket images.
I would do it again without any reservations.

I came out $2,000 better six months after I tried to sell my car on Ebay. This was trade-in for the C7 I will be getting from the dealer I made a deal with. With the tax advantage trading I'm nearly $4,000 better of than what I would have got from selling on Ebay and buying the C7.

How bad are the eBay fees? I assume that the title transfer, taxes, etc., were like buying any other out-of-state vehicle.

My question as well. When i sell small things on eBay i get bent over big time!! iPhone selling for $400, fees are somewhere around $50-75, then another $25 or so for paypal fees...

Probably runs about $125.00 to $145.00 "if the car is sold". Those were my fees in the past when the car was sold.
That's a small amount considering your ad is seen in all 50 states.
If the car is not sold on eBay fees for posting are $50.00...see rules and terms at ebay Motors.
As for other fees there are none. All buyers pay sales tax if there respective state has one when registering, and title and registration is always charged to the buyer.

wow, not bad at all, and makes total sense. iPhone fees $100, $30k car fees $150...

Any suggestions regarding starting bid, reserve, etc - please share how the auction went, number of bidders, did it move quickly or only once you got close to the auction expiring, etc?
Thanks for sharing, I also need to do this with my high mileage C5

Try this forum
Not panning EBAY by any means but I have sold my '01 and '03 Zo6's and my '08 C6 on this forum. Sure, a few suspect inquiries but not many and a TON of responses which were serious. Smooth transactions on all sales. There may be a wider audience on EBAY but am convinced this forum has the greater audience which are SERIOUS BUYERS.
Key is describing it right, pricing it right and just being HONEST in all.

I tried to sell my C6 on ebay, but kept receiving extremely ridiculous low ball offers. I wound up selling it locally for 28k. I kept getting offers of 18-20k.
