Mirror tap for radar detector for '15 Z51

That is correct. Did mine today. VERY hard to get the cord ends into the wire harness/plug. I filed them down as much as was safe to do, and even then it was next to impossible to get them to make contact. It works now, but I will probably have to solder small pins on the ends of the Invisicord wire in order to make good connections. Generally a PITA to do, compared to other cars.

Just completed on a 2015 Z51 Convertible. As Carpe Diem stated it was a PITA getting the pins in using an Invisicord. Had to file them down and push in with some force. Was much easier on the C6! But, now have my V1 and don't feel unprotected driving around. A big thanks to the OP and everyone else on this thread.

2015 - Z06 - Convertible - aside from a slightly marred up wire harness cover (a nip & a tuck on the upper corner, and a screwdriver mishap halfway down the side) all went well - tried as i may, i could not get the ground wire to fully seat down, so i left it about half way implanted, hoping i do not have to revisit it...time and few NY roadway bumps will tell - also, i can't get the cover to fully seat 100% back as tight as it was to start with...less than half a millimeter - seems tight..so i'm leaving it alone
very nice install...makes you feel like a pro

Wire tap
Thanks for the detailed play by play. When I hard wired my Shelby the wires were all out in the open behind the mirror. When I looked behind my C7 Z06 I saw nothing. Corvette Forum and I great forum member to the rescue. My new C7 Z06 now has mounted my Escort Max 2..Thanks

To keep on topic, installing my blendmount and mirror tap tomorrow if it arrives today per tracking info. Thanks for the great how to info!

What I miss on the Z06 is the blower whine that my Shelby has. With 700 + hp on tap it is music to the ears.

Great instructions/Cheaper Mount
Your Instructions made this install easy. It was a pain getting the taps in, but I used a dental pick to start then a small screw driver to make a slot for the tap. It took a little prodding but they went in.
I found a cheaper mount than the blend mount. It is sheet metal bent to form a bracket, , It looks very clean and it's only $40. In fact you hardly see the bracket. Here's a couple of links and a couple of pic's installed, sorry about the dark pic's but you can get the idea.

that is not a bad alternative to a BlendMount....i'd say "why not"
i recently discovered the V1 "rattles & squeaks" from just sitting in place while installed - i ran some electricians tape on top of the mounting grooves (1 per side) and semi-forcefully slid the V1 back on....no more rattles or squeaks...any such issue with yours ?

Many thanks to fellow South Carolinian RX FOR ME for figuring this out and posting his method. Here is a slightly simplified way to tap mirror power with clearer photos. Very easy to do and looks so much better.
You do not have to remove the PDR camera cover. Simply pry the edge of the cover off.
Wire harness detaches from the cover with a little pressure on the tabs on the side.
There's a little tab on the car side of the assembly that allows the two halves to come apart.
Red wire from mirror tap goes alongside of purple wire on the car side of the wiring assembly. Black wire from mirror tap goes along black wire on car side of assembly. I used a small dental tool to make space for the mirror tap wires. A very small screwdriver would do the same thing.
I opted to use a Dremel tool to cut a little notch for the wire to exit. Worked well, but if you do this put the notch a little farther forward.
Finished! Looks and works great!
About 30 minutes of work. Hope this helps!

Two things I had to do:
* I'm so tall I had to take the top off -- that allowed my to have my head up instead of nearly upside down
* I only could get my Max 2 to power up if the engine was started. Even though I could get power from the power adapters and the OnStar lights lit up, the unit wouldn't power on. I thought I didn't get the cables in right, but after I turned the car on it all worked.

The wire tab is a keyed source of power, thus ignition on to power detector. I'm very surprised to hear everyone having issues getting the tap to plug into the harness. Mine went right in no issue at all. Took me longer to read the directions than to actually do it.

I purchased a passport 8500 x50 that I plan to install in my z06. I just want to make sure I buy the appropriate hardware to mount it. I believe this is the product I should be purchasing, along with the wire tap. Any confirmation would be appreciated!

I installed the Blendmount on my new 2015 Z51 convertible. It took less than an hour. Most of the time was trying to find a flashlight.
Definitely get the .050 tap, the .040 is too thin and bent. All you need to do is pop the plastic off the back of the mirror with a small screwdriver. (Number 1 on schematic). No need to remove anything else. No need to disconnect the wire block or mirror. Push the Red tap into the purple on the car side of the connector and the Black to the Black. I used a thin probe to push over the wire coating and open up the space for the tap a little. I just then snapped back the cover with the tap wire coming out on top between the fabric and the plastic cover. Make sure the block fits into the tabs on the cover.
Mounted the blendmount and adjusted, works fine. Just remember to start the engine to get the radar detector power.

I also found that taking the top off helped me do the installation.
