I was on Manhiem Auto Auction's site looking for Corvettes and I found on Tuesday December 30th at Manheim Detroit GM dealers only sale they are selling many of the early built test cars. They also have some company demos. Here is the list:

Looking at the VINs, most of them are early build "captured test fleet" vehicles, assigned to various folks for "fast feedback". I recognize three of them (disclaimer, I don't work for GM).

Corvette ED

None of these cars are buybacks or lemons. They are all GM company cars. Most of these get put into what is called captured fleet. When you go to various Corvette events around the country these are the cars the Corvette engineers are driving. Some of these cars are also given to the press to test.

Vin 413 has 70,063 miles on it. Oh wow that guy must have been able to cross the US multiple times. Thats the job I want. Indeed this is alot of used 2014's fixing to hit the market. Im sure this will drive down the resale of many used 2014's on the market. If I had one I would sell it today.

A GM capture fleet car with similar mileage went for $41K at auction. This one probably will go in the low 40s high 30s. MSRP is irrelevant.

The interesting thing about 2014 Captured Test Fleet cars is that for the initial run the last six numbers of the vin began with 000001. They built a few hundred, then for regular production they went back and started with 100001.

For example in June of 2013, plant manager Dave Tatman's yellow/black Z51 demo was vin 71 (000071). Then later in 2013 a Forum member's ordered car got built with vin 71 (100071).

I wonder if the auction list includes both 000XXX cars and 10000x cars?


edit - re-reading the list I see third from the end is vin 71. That would be the yellow 000071 that we saw Dave Tatman driving everywhere in the summer of 2013. 23k miles. That would be an interesting car to own.
