Default About these blown engine's

we keep seeing on this forum( im asking because i dont know) are they mostly z51's? i have not seen a base car blow up. i would think it would be close to 50/50. anyone know? i just traded a 14 non-z51 that i pounded on for 6,100 miles and never was to dealer for anything, i have on the way a z51. should i worry? i wish there was a dry sump delete, its a shame the trouble some have had even if its the dealers fault( overfill ). i even have a friend that blew his z51 at the track but that was driver error. something about a 5th to 2nd shift. i was not in the car. all i know for sure is im not going to do anything to lose the factory warranty. but i would like to know what car blow's more. thanks

Dude.... over 21,000 Z51's sold in 2014 and only a handful of reports of engine issues.

Relax, you're getting worked up over NOTHING

And close to 40,000 C7s sold with a few "blown" engines, some of which were the driver's fault. Much ado over nothing.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. There is a reason cars come with 5/100000 warranty

and i have a reason to keep that warranty, a motor would cost me more than the 2014 to 2015 trade i just did. $8,500

I have a Z51 that just blew. Not going to blame it on the Z51 motor set up, the dry sump has been around for a long time. In most case they are in the Z06 427 and the new Z06 so GM would not be wanting to use the system on there flag ship cars.

Just enjoy your new car do not stress your self with out cause. With all new motors there is some issues and will be a few more that will give up along the way.

It is not going to be fun for me during the process. I just can not wait to get my head turning car back on the road, turning some heads again!

If you don't mod, who cares ? Unless you plan to keep it past the 5 yr/100,000 mile power train warranty. Just drive and have fun. Course if you had slapped a supercharger on that 2014 ( $7500 at Vengeance Racing, a quality forum tuner), you would have saved $1000 over trading for the 2015. You would have a whole lot more fun the first time you stepped on the throttle than you ever had without the supercharger. I had 2 supercharged C6's for 7 yrs on my 2006 and 5 yrs on my 10GS, that ran flawlessly the whole time( LPE, another excellent forum tuner did the work). I had a blast and didn't waste time worrying about something that likely would never happen. If it did, I would just fix it and move on.

Bottom line is, if you don't mod, stop worrying over nothing. If you are a worrier and want a supercharged corvette with a full power train warranty which completely transforms the vette experience, buy a Z06 or a Calloway.

Also remember a few of the blown engines were caused by a torque tube replacement and not a fault in the LT1 engine.

See page 4 right column in the Dec 13 Tech Bulletin.
