No, I did not install the front brake rotor cooling rings. I've had the car on the track several times and have not experienced any brake fading.

WelderGuy, I didn't think the techs would have any problem reproducing the problem, but now I'm worried. The service advisor called a short while ago with an update. He says they did experience the problem, and that the only code thrown was for a failing shift solenoid in the transmission. They want to change that out and see if it takes care of the problem. I don't see how that could lead to what was happening.

Rakkasan, some tracks do allow verts, and Circuit of the Americas is one of them.

Silky1 & beepster - PM's sent.

A relationship between a failing shift solenoid and the symptoms you're having isn't that much of a stretch. You could do major damage to the transmission if one of the clutch packs didn't do what it's supposed to as the car accelerates. To prevent this, the transmission goes into survival mode, and uses the StabiliTrak (or whatever they call it now) to keep that from happening. It's easy enough to do with computers.

Of course, that's pure speculation on my part, but I'm cautiously optimistic they're going to fix it.

Dissimilar metal cause corrosion if they're left in place.

WelderGuy, your speculation/intuition was right on! I heard from the service advisor today -- replacing the shift solenoid solved the problem. They test drove it yesterday without a problem but wanted to test drive it again this morning. Again, no problem. It's ready for pickup. Now, I just need another track day...

Glad you got it fixed. I know these things can be somewhat traumatic when they don't know for sure what is wrong.

That's amazing that the car would disable itself to protect itself from further damage. Pretty cool technology.

rszane, glad to hear that the dealer was able to diagnose the problem. Do you mind telling me which dealer you used for the service? I just got home (Austin) from the Museum Delivery with my Z06 and I'm looking for a good service department.

Of course, I agree. However, I do wish the computer would inform the driver what it is doing. I already have a wife...

TXBubba, I'll send you a PM momentarily.
